PLEASE HELP!- K-Series cylinder head

Does anybody know the Rover K-series engine? particularly if the valves are clear of the piston crown in the event of a cam-belt snap.

i realise it's not exactly motorsport, but the cam-belt went on my rover metro the other day & i'm quite sure i didn't hear any smashing of valves. but i've fitted a new belt, done the timing to the book & it only turns over, maybe firing one cylinder.

is it likely that it is a valve thing or are there any other issues with broken belts i've overlooked- i cleaned the plugs up as best i could but would they likely need replacing? (don't want to take the head off unless i have to)

it's a 1.1 carburetted k-series, the car is 1992 model. both crank & camshaft turned ok manually- nothing untoward.

any advice much appreciated.

Re: PLEASE HELP!- K-Series cylinder head

If your car was still in motion when the timing belt snaps then you'll probably have damaged the pistons and in the process bending the valves.

You mentioned about firing only one cylinder, then you'll have to take off the heads and replace the valves definitely.

Hi the K series engine allways bends valves when the belt Replysnaps !!!! its only a matter of how many, normally because the valve stems are so small in diameter no piston damage ocours but you can probably expect to replace about 8 valves and a couple of guides but this does depend on engine speed when the belt gave up. This is not a nice engine and can bite you if its not repared properly by sombody who knows this unit,
Hope this helps,
GRIFF
