Am I the only one who thinks the situation leading to Vanthoor's penalty was ridiculous?

The cones? It seemed like the cones were far too close to the pit box. Did the car park too far forward in the box?

I don't think he did. But even if he did, it's just very awkward to put the cones there.

Was quite hard to tell with the camera angle how close they were. Most drivers turn a pretty sharp and wheelspin assisted left on exiting the box, so I would have thought if he'd done the same he'd have missed them. Which is the point I suspect - evening things up so the team in the last garage don't have a "straight drive out" advantage.

He certainly deserved the second one though - a red mist dive down the inside and then running someone in to the gravel is a bit poor from someone of his talent.

Good racing this weekend, quality over quantity definitely the message here.

Interesting to note, 20-22 cars in Blancpain Sprint this year..

35 in ADAC GT Masters, 25 in GT Open, and even 20 GT3's in Blancpain GT Asia.

Dont think its a sign of Blancpain sprint struggling, it seems Sprint has moved towards being the top level almost fully professional GT3 series, with the AM guys chosing GT Masters and GT Open instead. Not a bad thing at all though.

here in Germany we don´t have many bronze-drivers in the GT Masters. So only a few Am drivers (Lips, Friedrich, Barth).

WRT people are not known for being stupid. They knew those cones were there and not disturbing their play.

The Zolder Blancpain races were...eh. Not horrible but not terribly exciting either. Too many grey liveried Audis I guess. Disappointed Lexus did not fair better. The absences of M Sport Bentley, ROWE BMW, and HTP Mercedes was very obvious.

Hell of an entry list for Monza... 25 cars in Pro, at least 20 can win it.

I think Monza might be a better track for the Lexus. They are pretty new to the Pirelli tires also. Endurance-info has a good story about the car and how it wasn't handling the bumps and uneven surfaces of Zolder. They should have contacted the 3GT team in IMSA for their suggestions because they were really fast at Sebring

I don't think Ratel minions would be open to take IMSA BoP in their series.

I was actually suggesting that they should share some of the setup knowledge because of how bumpy Sebring is.

If anyone would like to see my pictures from Zolder, here they are: https://www.gt-report.com/2018/04/15...irst-attempto/

Also did some interviews. Steijn Schothorst: https://www.gt-report.com/2018/04/17...e-competitive/

Kelvin van der Linde: https://www.gt-report.com/2018/04/17...different-now/

Also got an interview with Lorenz Frey coming up and of course I couldn't resist asking about the new Jaguar model that will happen or won't happen or might happen or whatever is the latest rumour.

Im interested to hear if any team owners or drivers feel that having 6 hours of practice is too much this weekend, for me it seems like overkill and expensive.

I Think its fair to say a number of the PRO teams at least in Blancpain are now high calibre enough not to be bothered by shaving a few hours of practice off to save some budget.

As for Pro-Am's, Silver, and AM cars, I guess its their choice as to how much they want to participate in those 6 hours

Many teams have been testing in Monza in the past few months. Those who haven't gone there will be happy with it. I don't think any one really cares. If the set-up is right and the numbers check out, you don't run.

The Friday tests were actually separate from the rest of the weekend. So it really was exactly how it was advertised: a testing session.

Interesting grid produced this morning off the new qualifying format. Jaguar second and the old Gallardo fourth.
