The experience of writing professionally about a series for ten years, if he didn't have Cred he wouldnt be still writing and he wouldnt be on inside supercars
And he has more cred because he makes posters on here cry so that gives him lots of cred |

I can remember some quality stooges that News Corp and V8SC have rolled out over the years for example Chico Harlan in 2007. I would suggest you need to more than merely report for a period of time to earn respect and credibility of readers and those within the sport. |

He seems to be grating on more and more people within the VASC community of late.
Only a matter of time before Warbo intervenes. |

Telling factor for mine was early last year when Neil Crompton appeared on Inside Supercars and could barely hide his disdain for some of the ill informed comments News Corp's designated panelist was coming up with. And you can tell Mark Skaife often has to bite his tongue.

Name one genuinely "hard question" Phelps has ever asked in relation to Supercars.

Wouldn't a good talking point be what the hell is the the future of Supercars? No new manufacturers, current manufacturers giving no sign of staying or going, where's the gen2 test mule at, why try and brainstorm a open wheel copy cat series when gen2 is still up in the air, how long can pra, DJR etc use falcons for, why did Homebush fail, was the failure of KL foreseen etc etc

His job is to tease out reality as part of his questioning. His job is not to make fantasy statements in the hope truth is revealed. He might as well have asked Garth Tander to prove he was heterosexual on a recent panel question for all the reaction he received from GT |

Re. the reverse grid comment, Chris is not Aaron Russell so no it doesn't reflect a reverse grid - not a hard question, just an uninformed, stupid question. Hard hitting would be - "Does Aaron Russell overtaking frosty and frostys subsequent tantrum show that winterbottom is still a big sook?" |

I can kinda get the discussion from Mr Phelps around this.
Mr Pither, up until that weekend, had been arguably underperforming to his equipment, with stories around that that garage went its own way on setup and when they gave that up, to go back to 'regular' PRA settings, the speed came too. The discussion around the driver's performance has nothing to do with the team principal's health, however it seems that it has been collapsed that way |

He didn't need to talk about Russell and frosty because others were talking about it already, so that creates no controversy and no further discussion His job is to keep the talk going between rounds, to discuss controversial topics. when we talk about Pither and go to his FB, we discuss him and his sponsor. Thats awesome. when he makes posters have a cry, that's awesome too, that creates passion |

James Phelps Discussion Thread (Merged)
James job is to discuss the sport as a whole, management included. I'm all for someone keeping the sport in the headlines and maybe stirring up a bit of controversy now and then but only if they approach it objectively and with substance unlike Phelps.
James Phelps is a hack. We really need someone who covers the category with the quality of Marshall Pruett who covers Indycar and IMSA in the states. |

Phelps works for a News Ltd rag, is a panelist on a Fox- News Ltd production, and as I understand it, does some work for VASC. He's there to stir the pot and create interest, whether his comments are on the mark or not. The guy now has a dedicated thread on a forum, creates plenty of comment on social media and raises the hackles of the sports teams and personalities, so the last thing the TV network would be doing, is shafting him. Does anyone really think that they would be taking on board any whinging from team personnel about his line of questioning? Keep in mind, Warburton is a media person himself. They love this stuff. They want to generate comment..... good, bad or indifferent. It means people are watching. |

Creating clicks and selling papers makes him a hack, it does not give him cred. People on here don't like him because he is full of crap who passes said crap off as scoops, when they predominantly do not come to be the truth, this shows at worst he has made it up, at best put 2 and 2 together to get 61. I think GTRMagic's powder room has more success with the crystal ball than James Phelps. This lowers his cred. He deserves to be a writer for a gossip magazine, nothing more. Quote:
