Actually come to think of it, did that one have a major shunt somewhere later on in its life and then disappeared?

So where's this potential list that's supposed to be being posted then?

I've had a think about more likely suspects for inclusion, there was a Mazda RX7 with either a GAV6 or turbo engine in it, Mike Wilson's?

in smaller classes though: The Moggy Minor-BDA that James Funnell raced, the smaller engined Metro that ran at same time as Bill Richards' think it was owend by Viv Wallace?

There was also a guy from Cornwall, sponsored by a Newquay hotel, who ran a Viva or a Magnum in 70's/80's Chris Sims, i think? May been more of a modsaloon than special saloon though.

My Metro had the sister body to Viv (Buster) Wallace we shared the same body moulds his Metro had a Mini Imp engine 1000cc I had the 1298cc BDH Cosworth motor on a Mini Box that I still race today.Jim Funnell is still alive and still has his Morris Minor that also had a 1298 BDH and a silly gearbox with loads of gears he asked me to rebuild it last year as he wanted to come back out and race against me again.Peter Baldwins mini was bought by John Flack who got us to re-build the car but he then found it to aggresive to drive so he sold it to a guy in Japan it now sits in a glass case in a shopping centre.

The S&S Manta just disappeared after thundersaloons, I think. Sold on, but no-one knows who to.

There's very little of the original car left (shame - I liked Black Thunder!)

Stars & Stripes, mmmmmmmm, did I read correctly - it's being/has been rebuilt?

What I need are some real contacts with these people. Those of you that know where they are, can you give me details (by PM please) of who to contact (numbers, email, etc..)

I'm still trying to get hold of Pete Stevens ('The' Carlton).

It's a real shame about Pete Baldwin's Baby BDA Mini, in a glass case, tsk tsk!
Racing cars are for racing.

It's still being compiled.

I'm not posting anything until I've had contact with the car's owners.

It would be foolish to say "Baby Bertha's coming out, and the Carlton, etc.." without actually talking to the owners.

Sadly, this thing called work seems to take up much of my time, together with a young family, it doesn't leave much left to chase around after people.

mick hill's superloon beetle

I bought Mick Hill's car from Keith Norris, which is currently in pieces, and was planning to re-build it over a couple of years. But this may be too good an oppotunity to miss. I am seeking help also in the form of any photographs that are available. Also if anybody could recommend any restorers that may understand or appreciate this car

Many thanks Alan. I have contacted, both, Ted Walker and LAT photographic and they are both searching archives for suitable photographs. I am searching for those "one off" under the bonnet/boot shots that might be helpful in restoration process. It might certainly make it quicker if I can locate something. Again thank you.

Don't know if this excellent site has been mentioned here already, but I'm sure the Mick Hill V8 Beetle is featured amongst the Imps and Boss Escort etc.

Firstly, Mr Moderator sir, could you please merge this thread with the one of the same name in the Historic Racing section, so there's one joint thread (as it's for the same thing).

Secondly, Track & Race Cars magazine have said that they are willing to do an article on this (planned) race, together with a group test, either at Bruntingthorpe, or if possible - at Rockingham (as that's where the race will be held if it happens).

This week, I'm hoping to get some names written in blood on a piece of paper pledging their precious machinery to this event.

Rob.

He's already on the list! No escape.

The list is building, there are a few people I still need to contact. I have 20 on that list, and ideally want another 10.

Superloons, Thundersaloons, 1970's & 80's Special Saloons. Come out, come out, wherever you are!

No probs. Do you want it in here or in there? Let me know and I'll press the appropriate butons.

Update.

Now merged as requested into historic forum. The previous posts will be chronological, so apologies if the thread is a little lumpy as a result.

Would the V8 Star Jaguar be able to come out and play?? I am new to all this V8 stuff but have been looking at Camaro's and Mustang's to buy for the last couple of years and the Jaguar was the closest I could get.

Sorry Stuart, but it's a product of the wrong century

You'll be more than welcome in the Track & Race Cars series, as well as the Dunlop V8 Supercar Challenge (if you can afford it!), or even LMA Eurosaloons, or Castle Combe, or one of the many other sports & saloons championships.

Had the Jag been a Broadspeed XJ-C, you'd be on the list.

The list currently has 26 cars on it, of which, I am 90% sure of 16 of them.

Still waiting on contact details for Pete Stevens (Vauxhall Carlton Thundersaloon) - anyone know him?

Regards

Rob.

Got one picture of the Doug Niven/Mick Hill Beetle from the rear with bodywork off. I would need to dig it out then work out how to post an image.
Memories of it were cross over style injection and "Team Surtees" rocker covers. Also nobody being able to get near it in 78 at Ingliston except for an atrociously wet October meeting when, I think, John Kirk beat him in a 1 litre Imp!
Also Also, Doug had "Fast Action" across the back of the car. cool.
Saw him at the Charterhall Stages last year

Dave, He's found a man who can, and he is!! Fingers crossed for August! I doubt Pete would make it as far as Newark, his nose would start bleeding going that far north!

And chunterer - Chris Millard - that rings a bell. Didn't he, or a brother perhaps, run in the Ferrari series? Somewhere in my old racing files, I have programs from races that I ran in, where we supported Thundersaloons. I'll dig them out and look.
