Um, yeah he's from Brum i reckon? think he competed in Porsches in the 80's as well? Might have been doing prodsaloons before that i think.

Might have done some BRDC C2 sportscars or GT's few years back?

I'm sure he was Pete Steven's partner in the Senator and latterly Carlton?

Hows that Mk2 V6 Escort you're working on coming along?

The list is doing quite well, just some important people that still need to be found/contacted.

Chunterer - thanks for the info. The other (brother?) Millard is Michael, (just came to me in a flash!), who is probably the one that runs/ran in the Ferrari's.

Rob.

I suggest you use the Prelude in TRC, and save the Escort for this race Pete!

Dave - what happened to those other V8 Escorts that were being prepared? Have they taken my attitude with the building? (too busy playing with the computer to be working on the car!)

Tell me something getting back to the Beetle and over plastic bodies on single seater chassis (sorry I hate em I think they spoilt the whole scene and I think are a big turn off) does the driver sit centrally in such a contraption or to one side aka a conventional vehicle. If central and based on a single seater it this the type of kit you want in the race Rob?

Rob; Pete completed helping a customer with the Mk 2. Whether he threads his nuts tight enough to get it on the track in a race is another thing. The other Mk1 is half (?) way there, due to Petes working commitments and my money.

Al, sorry I am not a technical person ( and I am sorry you do not like super saloons ) but i feel that there may be some confusion. My beetle, for example, is a Beetle not a F5000 chassis ergo it is RHD. In effect it is a V8 Beetle and as such it is a part of historic motorsport, like it or not. I too own a race Camaro and have many opportunities to race it, however not many opportunities present themselves for cars of this type. Thanks Rob for your hardwork in making this vision a reality.

Whoa hold on I did not say I did not like Super Saloons par se, jutt he ones that were as your car was described i.e take a redundant F1 or F5000 (usually) or F2 strip the bodywork off, make a mould of a saloon car in glass fiber and plonk the lot on the top and go racing. Sorry about the confusion but I was responding to the post from Andy

Could that be the one that punted Pete Thurstons Mk1 Escort at 100mph into the armco at Paddock in 2003 trying to make 3 abreast in Formula Saloons? I believe Mr Hale was the meat in the sandwich Or was it a Camaro Mr Chester was muscling through with?

Hi Andy. My car is without any doubt the "Mick Hill" Car and without any doubt the "donor" car was a F5000 car. However no part of the F5000 chassis was or is used. Thanks for the reference to those photographs by the way. Incidentally the one from "photo box" shows quite clearly the Chevy motor and DG300 bolted to the "beetle". Although work is at early stage ( we still hope to be out in August/September? ) I reside at Newark ( not far from "Donny" ) you would be quite welcome to visit and chat. Best regards Martin

Could this also be the same car that Gary Charlwood raced at Lydden in the late 80's. Might be able to try Kerry Dunlop, as he's been going to Lydden taking photos for years. Bert mk2 could probably find his e-mail ?

Mentioning Special Saloons and Lydden, what happened to the Escort V8 of Mick Tester ? Or is this the same car as Peter T's.

I think it was a different car - not 100 % on that though.

Churchill's 'Stratos' ran a DFV didn't it? and he also entered it against the Tiga's and Spice's in BRDC C2?

Sounds like there could be a fair few Escort derivatives out there in August folks?

As far as I know the cummings car was an ex churchill car and was based on a march f2 ground effects car similar to the one he purchased from me. The beetle WHAT A CAR!!! I remember it well when garry raced it,or should I say coasted to another win unless Mick's old M1 turned up driven by dave shepherd.Ignore all the moaners on here these sort of cars are the stuff of dreams. I am forever amazed that these cars have no value yet if it is a car that the factory built in small numbers they are worth fortunes. Each and every individuals enterpretation of what was a special saloon to me is far more interesting.

I think the one you are thinking of is a white argo based group c/6 style one?

Last I saw of that was in the racecarwarehouse.co.uk in Brighton for sale!

http://www.racingsportscars.com/phot...-08-photo.html

http://www.racecarwarehouse.co.uk/ click on competition cars

Argo!

http://www.davie.e7even.com/Ron%20Cumming.htm

this is the ron cumming one, later my Dad owned the body, now owned by David Smaill in Glasgow who also owns the AC3000 too!

Ron's car was basically a early 80s March F2 car, with BMW Hart engine in it, still a central driving position! By about 92' single seater super saloons were banned from SMRC racing, because of this car!

So true, Peter. Wonderful creations and great entertainment. I hope this all gets off the ground and that we can see them in action again. So where's this current list then or are we going to have to wait until the eleventh hour?
