Nurburgring 1963?

Probably 1963 but what and who is it?

Looks earlier than 1963 - and looks like Stirling!

Looks about 60/61 and Phil Hill.

Moss at the Nurburgring in a Ferrari, especially a sportscar?

Sorry, I thought it looked more like a Maserati.

I'm with Barry; I think it is a Maserati. If it is it, it would have been several years out of date by 1963, since it looks a bit like a 300S to me. If it is Moss, it will be much earlier. Moss drove Astons in 58, 59, and a Maserati Birdcage in 60 at Nurburgring, winning all 3. He had also retired by 1963. So, if it is Moss and 300S, you could be looking as early as 1956, and also at the winner!

Ah, one year out, then. Brooks won in 1957 in the DBR1/300; I should have remembered that Stirling was still in the Maser in '57, because that year he also drove the monster 450S and the wrongly executed Costin bodied coupe version at Le Mans.

Can we agree 1957, then?

I took this photograph at Nurburg Ring in 1959. Moss was driving the Aston Martin during the race but he spent some time testing out the new Birdcage Maserati before the race. Of course he and Jack Fairman went on to win the 1000kms. in the Aston.

Mmmm... the problem I have is that it just don't look like a Birdcage to me.
The wheel arches are not high enough in relation to the bonnet line.
(ducks and runs for cover!)

If it is 1959,
the candidate is #10 Maserati 300S ,Mario Cabral / Felipe Nogueira.

Of course, we are all making an assumption that it IS SCM - but of course, it might not be.
It's all very well us making guesses but Navyflier must know when he went there.
One thing is definite, though, it is not a Birdcage.

No, I agree it isn't. I mentioned the Birdcage to put it into context to show that if it was a 300S, which I'm pretty sure it is, it would have been obsolete by many years in 1963.

I've played about with the image using contrast and enlargement but just cannot read the competition number. However, as navyflier has said it is 1959, JeanL must be correct if that was the only 300S running.

This 300S have a annexe C windscreen,so it is after 1956 and before 1960,and a grid on the side,like #4/1957 and #10/1959 (the same car ?).

OK, we reckon that Moss spent the practice session playing in two Maseratis, the 300s and the Birdgage which is shown below.

The Birdcage was the original 2 litre Tipo 60 so it would be logical to make back to back tests against a 200S rather than a 300s. But I wasn't there and Maserati aren't famous for being logical.
