OK, courtsey of macdaddy, you can download the article transcript and pictures here:
http://www.lynxdvd.co.uk/AfterTheMiracle.zip (190KB) The Article is indeed very moving, but in places very funny as well, especially some of the things Alex has said/done since. Last edited by Ian-S; 19 Apr 2002 at 20:53. |

Yeah, especially the reference to when Max Papis called him last autumn and asked him what he was doing, to which Zanardi replied "about 240 kilometers an hour" - he had within two weeks of being released from hospital learned how to drive his BMW with hand controls...

And when he suggested his wife should have broken the news to him by saying "I've got good news and I've got bad news ..."

...and I said to the Mrs, of all the silly things we get annoyed and upset over, pale to nothing when compared to what he's been though, and he's still a wicked little boy at heart

Speaking of Zanardi photos, I have a 20"x 30" of Zanardi making "The Pass" on Herta at La Guana Seca. It the same one you may have seen being pedaled at the CART events. What's particulary interesting is that my friend and I were veiwing the race from top of the corkscrew. About three laps from the end we were about to go to the finish line. Since we were both a bit tired, we just hung in where we were. After the pass, I turned to my buddy and asked, "Did you see that"? He did see it, through the lens of his Nikon.

Ugh! Its hard to belive that Alex is still with us. What a hero, to come back from it and seem like such a sincere honest person, who has accepted and faced the cards life has dealt him. I now hope there is a heaven, because Alex will be there.

But, uhm... It's Laguna Seca. "Dry Lagoon" in Spanish. The complex regarded as the track's front half, from the Andretti hairpin to that long hill climb used to be underwater. To think there was a time when people were smart and creative enough to change a track without ruining it. |

Now, if he'd made that pass under water ....
I'm surprised no one has made a Zanardi tribute video yet. It'd be a best seller! |

What impressed me more of the article was that Alex was read his last rites, just like Niki Lauda in 1976 at the Nürburgring...
It was so close... thanks for posting the zip archive! |
