FV8 3.5 Final round discussion

So, Dillmann is champion.

It looks like Celis did everything to help Dillmann and hinder Deletraz (hence the penalty for Celis I think) while Fitipaldi did everything to not help his teammate.
I know Fittipaldi tries to get the best possible result for himself, but team-wise that was not smart.

Of course, Dillmann was just the fastest of the 2, but the Fortec tactics were strange, and he had a bit of luck too (Orudzhev stalls at the warmup lap, slow stop for Isaakyan, ...)
The luck of a champion, probably?

Hmmm whilst I've always though Tom to be quick and untapped as far as his ultimate potential goes, I'm not sure this was the title result the series needed?

i think it was - avf who are a bit of an underdog team beat the usual suspects. ok, that was with a proper driver with loads of experience vs a series rookie, but it has justified the value of those non-big boy teams which is particularly important with the expansion next season.

was fittipaldi in the position to *need* to help deletraz? it didn't necessarily look like one was holding the other up.

After the stops, a position swap wouldn't change a thing, but it's the start of the race I'm thinking about.

If I was Fortec, I would have made sure Deletraz was in front of Fittipaldi during the first few laps.
Fittipaldi's job would then be to race Dillmann. Properly, without backing him up in a dirty way, or making contact.
Just having him fight would lose him ground. Not only to Delétraz, but also to Nissany.

Eventually, Delétraz could still have given the position back if he didn't need it.

didn't deletraz make a relatively poor start? letting someone past in the early stages is always risky because there's still other drivers around to capitalise and potentially take both places if it's done badly. imo they did the right thing, it's lousy to see team games at this level of motorsport.

i think fittipaldi was quoted on autosport as saying he was glad he wasn't put in the position to need to decide whether to help deletraz.

I'm not saying they should have played the team game, just saying I'm surprised they didn't, while Celis/AVF did. As a lapped car, he held up Delétraz after Louis came out of the pits, that's why he got the penalty I think.

I think as a team boss I would try to maximize my team result: with the team's championship gone (to Arden), try to get the driver's championship or the race win?

The Autosport quote is true: in the end there was no benefit in switching positions, that would not have helped anyone. It's just in the beginning that he could have made a difference IMO, like I explained above.

No critisism (to Fortec, Fittipaldi or anyone else) though, just an observation.

In the end, it probably won't make a difference anyway: Delétraz would have gone to GP2 with Racing Engineering if he was champion too; and for Dillmann even with the championship win, I'm afraid the prospects of a long single seater career look bleak.
