Will you be marshalling more or less in 2005?

The last poll (on should we be paid) was to me showing an interesting trend.

I was therefore wondering given the ever decreasing number (or so it appears) of marshals whether you were all planning to do more or less meetings/days marshalling in 2005 compared to previous years (or just 2004 if you are a newish marshal)

The poll therefore has 4 options. Make your choice and feel free to give your reasons....

Personally I will be doing more as I only attended one day in 2004 after taking a year or two off to study at a university part-time at weekends - though not the 40 odd days I used to do.

By the time I'd posted my reply, the poll was there; while I was editing my post, you were replying, which means nobody but you & me has any idea what this is all about!

Sadly it has to be less this year due to course commitments - the home/project/portfolio work is huge, and I have to use more time this year to do it as it is more complex. I plan to do a lot of late minute/turn up on the day marshalling - I know it's not ideal, but I'd sooner be an extra than an apologies, and I can't foresee how my workload will go!

Will be out every weekend hopefully between college years, so still hope to do quite a few days.

I shall be doing about the same as last year once I manage to sort the dates from the letters I have received. Its a pity we cant get all the dates on one sheet. Or can we?

Until I get all the dates I'm not sure but I hope to do about the same or even more. The only thing I will avoid is the uni-royal challenge but apart from that I will do as much as I can.

Used to only do rallies and sprints until middle of last year, then started circuits so off we go in 2005.

Alan Green should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
As posted in another thread, it'll be less for me due to finances (and a classic land rover to do up, land rover shows, and a couple of weddings knocking a few weekends out for next year). Committed to one series (SCSA), plus supporting DDMC at Croft, and a few meetings I enjoy each year (BTCC Croft & Donny, F3/GT Croft, GP) but roughly a 50% reduction next year.

I am not sure how many events I will be doing this year, due to this is my final year of my course, but I will be at as many events as I can.

As stated in another thread, I will probably end up doing less days in 2005 due to the possibility of having to work weekends.

Also, as I am now doing a job that pays the minimum wage - I have to consider other things before my marshalling.

The major expense for me, as a marshal, is the cost of petrol.

Much the same as the others, most likely less days next year for a variety of reasons, cost being one.

Unfortunately it looks like less here too - course committments and needing to revise a bit will take out the start of the summer; and providing I pass that the end of the season will be spent in France. And probans will not count as essentials to take over there!

Should be able to do more this year. Bought a house last spring and most of my race $$$'s went into the down payment. Still managed to make the U.S. Vintage GP at The Glen and several marq. weekends. 05 looks as though it will be a good year for Sportscars in the states and I can't wait. Plus we get the first ever IRL event on the road course. Something tells me that these guy's have no clue as to what is about to happen, and I'm going to be there with my flags in hand to watch and enjoy.

Hopefully I'll be doing more than in 2004, but that was because of marital circumstances than anything else. Now thats over, I only have to concentrate on me and my health, and schedule what I want to do, chief marshals allowing!!!!!!

So look out for the ex-Motability Martini Focus (if you've not seen it, take a look at the website!) wherever you go! Now that I've bought it outright, I'm freed up on the mileage I can cover!!!!!

I'll be doing more then in 2004, which is easy to accomplish, since I only did about 10 days this year. 2004 was sort of a sabbatical year for me, but in the end I missed it to much, didn't want to miss the FFF, and felt the need to get the rust out before going to the FFF. Batteries are charged for 2005!

I'm sure I can't be the only one that has now had their volunteering forms, selected the ones I really want to do, and only managed to cut back about five or six weekends on last year. Bah, so much for saving money

Added to the list above
- 750 Opener and Closer at Mallory (essential dates)
- F3/GT @ Donny (See what the GTs are like before their return to Croft)
- HSCC @ Croft (See Marcus's comments in MN this week)
- LMES @ Silverstone (Le Mans machinery without the expense of LM)
- Willhire 24hr @ Silverstone (Support the EERC for reviving this)
- Tour Britannia @ Cadwell & Silverstone (because it fits in with a holiday week)

Was hoping to see you at the 24hour 2CV at Snetterton this year. Need your suggestions (once you have been) to see if it matches it's Mondello days and, if not, what we need to do to make it better.

It's a possibility - is there a fixed date yet? Tbh, the biggest problem is getting to Snetterton. Fly/Drivewise it's one of the least accessible circuits!

You could talk to 2CVRacer though. He's MRMCI club pres and has been involved with this from both a marshalling and driver perspective and he was at the event... year before last IIRC... so he could probably help.

BBQs are always acceptable as a starter for 10!
