jminsh, I think thats the story I remember also, however I'm sure one of those powered Magnusun, I must be getting as confused as Justin.

Perhaps Goldminidust could ask Neil Bold, engine builders often know each others stories.

I used to work with a guy who spannered for Van Diemen,he said they thought nothing of changing 4 or 5 engines in Michael Roe's car on a test day. He speculated that they were that weeks customer rebuilds which presumably had taken a detour.

Patch was a Minister engine - Roberto Moreno has it apparently. Jan Mag ran an Auriga in his 92 (from what I can remember). Even if Jan's car was illegal he would have still won the festival regardless.

Yes Patch was a Minster. Many champions ran it in Van Diemen,s. Tommy Byrne, Moreno, even think the great Senna ran it.

The engine in question is closer to home than you think.....

Don Hardman has it in the back of Stu Kestenbaums car - the same car Joey Foster used to win the Walter Hays

kartingdad has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
....which was the important bit, seeing as how they patched it.

On the other hand, we had an engine let go last year. The block has been christened F**k*D and will remain in our own folklore for years.

Comtec Renault should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Patch is in Florida in the back of Moreno old van Diemen in his garage, and it was biult by Trever Von Rooyen at ministers then they took it over, it was killed good and proper by Fat Boy Mark Blundell at Oulton, I had it for Kelvin Burt in 1989 but it was not as good as 633, o happy days engines that had a name and a life, now all modern motors are all ok.....so we do not give them the life like the old ones..

So Roberto has it eh.
Answer me this one then. At least six people used to claim they owned the 1980 Festival winning RF80 [all at the same time]. Can you name them?
It wouldn't have been salesman patter would it?

Everybody say,s that they have Sennas RF81 but its in Ralph Snr,s care, funny its the only car of over 3000 he has kept, I know of 3 people who say they have James Courtneys RF00 but PA got the real one.
Roberto wanted his Festivall car so he found the original chassie and then had the remains of patch put in it.

Patch wasn't a patch on an FF1600 engine that appeared on the mainland in early 1975. It was the talk of the FF world. It was duly protested and sealed at Mallory one Sunday and found totally legal. Thing was this was a works Aldon installed in the Oulton Paddock the evening before. Said target of the protest wasn't even in the car at Mallory [wasn't an Aldon either]. Now if this driver had kept Woody building his engines on his teams rise up through the ranks, just imagine how many Constructors Titles the yellow ones would have won by now.

Also funny that - allegedly - there are more Williams FW08s' racing in various forms of Historic Racing than Williams ever built.
