I think they are one of the teams IMSA keeps referring to as close but also think if they aren't at Long Beach it will be 2018 before they are on track.

Wonder if it's old Core panels on a PC car, or and old Core car. The guys from Savannah Race Engineering run an 8 Star liveried PC car in HSR for Lawrence Huang. They're been playing with it without the restrictors too.

Sucks they won't be running the GTD car but understand how much of a change that could be and better to test it than race.

Dunno but the same guy ran the same (presumably- same-liveried anyway) at SVRA Sebring back in the Spring.

I would love to hear the team's and drivers views on this. But the series is worried cars will be too fast at Daytona.

More like they are worried about litigation if something should happen.

You don't think their is some release of liability clause in the entry forms? Plus how fast do stock cars go at Daytona? Much faster than we are expecting for DPi. Tubs should be strong enough to take damage, but yes racing has some inherent danger.

Stock cars at Daytona are only about ten-fifteen mph faster than last years Ligier through the traps.

That whole article brings back the queasy feeling that too many of IMSA's press releases have caused since before the merger.

Besides making the cars slower, the article also mentions that "probably" there will be a mix of DPIs and P2 at the Rolex ... and that no one has yet delivered a working anything.

I hate to sound harsh ... but if IMSA were tom fold, I know a lot of "executives" that I wouldn't hire to run a convenience store .....

Not really thinking they are too awfully worried about grid participants....

The concern is blowovers compared to NASCAR as much as anything if you're being realistic, although this will mostly be 200mph insurance fear mongering.

Anyways I really don't think they'll be that fast. Rebellion's trap speeds aren't exactly mind blowing.

I don't think it is blow overs in the sense of the car going forward, instead a situation where something goes wrong, and the lighter weight protos have a real potential to soar compared to a Nascar, which gain shocking altitudes. The liability concern is not the competitors, but instead the paying crowd behind the fences.

The thing is by limiting the proto speed, you have the GT cars climbing all over the back of the protos. Heck, the GTd cars were faster on the straights at Daytona then the GTLM cars, weren't they? Now you create a situation where the proto cars have to divebomb under brakes in order to pass, and that just means more incidents--at least to the way I see it.

Stock cars will also do a hell of a lot more damage to a fence when they get into it considering they weigh over 1,000lb more. A carbon prototype will shred itself against a fence a lot quicker than a stock car as well. I don't think a P car will go as far as a stockcar too once it gets into the air, due to it's lower weight. Kinda like when you throw a piece of cardboard and a piece of paper the same size, the paper gets caught by the wind and slowed down quicker.

Oh, I understand, but at the same time "shred itself against a fence" means the potential of lots of shrapnel-like debris through the fence. Notice also with the Daytona Rising project they have eliminated the lower rows of seats, in effect moving the spectators back and up.

The interclass dynamics at Daytona has been interesting in the past 3 years. The GTLM cars hang with the prototypes pretty darn good in the infield section of the track. Only on the banking do the protos pull away.

Pretty sure you mean 80s all things considered, and I assume you're talking about this particular incident?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ji0NEKlEByM

Only one of the cars actually took off on it's own, but never a good thing to see.
