Look at 8 cars lined up at this October's VdeV round at Magny Cours - these are G57s BTW - LMP3 based but with Chevrolet LS3 6.3-litre V8 engines

More details here:- http://ginetta.com/news_article.php?id=331 - and here http://ginetta.com/racing.php?champi...g57-p2&tab=car

Oddly, if you check the Ginetta website, they don't even acknowledge the G57 ever was an LMP3 car. They now called it the G57-P2. It's just an updated P3, but it certainly isn't a P2 car. I don't really understand the defence of Ginettas LMP3 car.

Dailysportscar interviewed Lawrence Tomlinson, Ginetta ownership the last 12 September and he answered your question there:

Quote:
What is your vision for the Ginetta G57?
“It’s a car we were always going to make, a track and race car with, basically, LMP2 capabilities. And that’s where we pitch it, a car with the same power and aero capabilities as an LMP2 but for 190,000 and with air conditioning!

And where do you see the car racing?
“Well, realistically the only place it definitely can’t race is LMP2 where only four constructors got the golden key. If any race organiser is looking for an opportunity to add a fast prototype class with 6 or 10 cars at the front then my view is that this offers a great opportunity to do it at a price point perfectly appropriate to a non-ACO Championship.
“Look for instance at what VdeV are looking to do next season with the Series welcoming the older LMP2s at the front of the field with really good cars that now won’t have anywhere else to run in the next 2-3 years. That could be fantastic, and we’ll be delighted to be a part of that with a car that is at the same performance level (though rather cheaper to run!).
“Better still for anyone with an older LMP2 car, a Ginetta Zytek, or a Lola or similar, with all of its really expensive parts, not just bodywork but the engines, gearboxes, carbon brakes, shifters, honestly you’d be much better putting in a museum and buying a G57, just as fast, jut as much fun, but way, way cheaper to run and repair, a fraction of an LMP2 budget. We just want to get more people out running and racing in prototypes.”

I've read that article, but it doesn't really explain it. It isn't an LMP2 car. It just isn't. It might be kinda close to the old LMP2 performance area, but it's a bit off the new one, and it just isn't an LMP2 car in any form. Calling it a P2 is a bit...odd. It even says that anyone with an old LMP2 should stick it in a museum and buy a G57. But anyone with an old LMP2 is either wanting a Le Mans car, or is running in AsLMS. The G57-P2 can't do either. It's probably a great track car, and obviously VdeV legal, but it doesn't fill the same niche as the old LMP2s.

But it also doesn't talk about why the G57 just ceases to exist. It isn't even referenced on the website. Ok they had falling outs with ORECA and what not, but it was an important car, despite the build quality and support issues.

I really love Ginetta because it feels like an old fashioned, blokes in a garage, taking on the big boys. It's great. But I don't understand what they're doing with the "G57-Not-a-P2" and the "G57-Doesn't-exist-P3"

I understand that they point to all non-ACO prototype series with more open rules, which may be they competing with the old P2 or at the P3 level.

Manor will be in LMP1 in 2018, with a Ginetta Mechachrome turbo V6.

It's getting hard not to be a little excited by the Ginetta P1 programme.

Yes it seems a little ambitious but heck they have three seriously interested parties

Great news! Hope they have a good time of it and come up with something able to at least hang with the hybrid cars.

Current Ginetta LMP3 customers ARC Bratislava and PRT Racing have already confirmed their interest in fielding the new Ginetta LMP1 for the 2018 FIA WEC with the Garforth, Yorkshire-based company which is committing to an initial production run of 10 LMP1 chassis.

SMP and BR built something like 7 or 8 BR01... but as far I know, they had just one customer... anyway hope all the best for ginetta.
To me the best engine options are HPD 3.5 V6 or GM 6.2.

I would like to see those engines too, but LMP1 allow prototype engines without the need to use stock blocks, so the engines you are talking about should be in a disadvantage.
