http://www.frdsports.com/en/news-813.html

A new LMP3 prototype series. This one is a primarily Chinese series with one round in Sepang, Malaysia.

If they can win this series, then they will get a free entry in the 2017-18 Asian Le Mans Series, a free use of a Ligier JSP2 LMP2 and running costs borne by Onroak Automotive. 1st runner's up will get a Ligier JSP3 LMP3 for the 2017-18 AsLMS.

The series will run a 60 minute sprint race that will be held on Sunday after two practices, and one qualifying session on Saturday.

Race calendar:

14 May: Shanghai F1
4 Jun: Zhejiang
23 Jul: Sepang
27 Aug: Shanghai F1
17 Sep: Zhuhai

Jam3s should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Top level sportscar racing is definitely on the up in China and this is a great way to encourage Chinese drivers into the sport. This year we had Pu Jun Jin competing at Le Mans along with David Cheng, both funding their respective cars for the event (and season) and both certainly proved their worth in the sport, even as Bronze amateurs, so hopefully their success and a series such as this can further encourage the development of local drivers.

The incentive of winning is pretty damn good too! Basically there's now complete year round racing for asian teams looking to purchase a P3 along with the Sprint Cup and AsLMS.

Alex Tagliani, now a regular in NASCAR's Canadian Pinty series, is set to make his debut in the new China-based FRD LMP3 Series. He will join Australia's Greg Taylor in Craft-Bamboo Racing's Ligier JS P3 LMP3.

Change of date for the first round also, now 28th May with an official shakedown a week before, though this clashes with the Blancpain Asia which most teams involved in FRD take part in.
