Prelude To The Dream - June 6, Eldora Speedway

Well today, I got up close and personal to Danica's dirt late model car that she will run at Eldora this year... Man is that cockpit small and tight!!!

Yep but have to agree with DF. Especially the low roof.

Which team is running her car?

Why are they called Late Models?

Why is the bodywork above the wheels so high, thus making it so hard to get into/ out off the car?

it's what they've always been called

Um, Awesome Bill will be running the line on the berm all night long. Why ain't he on your abbreviated list?

Late model dirt cars are the coolest thing in racing today and all they are is a V8 planted in a tube frame with some sheet metal bent over it. They go quick around Eldora.

A "late model car" is a current or recent year car (I'm not sure if that phrase translates and not trying to be a doosh). Back when stock cars were actually stock cars, the classes were often separated by age as the fastest cars were the newest, so the fastest class were Late Models. As sheet metal bodies came along the name remained to differentiate between the classes (Street stock, super stock, modified, etc.).

The fender height allows for suspension travel clearance. Sort of Nascar meets WRC.

I am actually pondering my first PPV event since the second Holyfield/Lewis fight.

Anyone else going to watch it live or await the replay?

They should have a late-model dirt race on the Cup calendar. Doesn't Charlotte have a dirt track? They could do it midweek between the All Star race and the 600.

Imagine these guys in heats and finals, for points! Fantastic.
