pshoe001 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Has anyone done a 'pit walkabout'?

I just got my tickets for the pit walkabout at Indy. Have they done this at any other venues this year? What should I expect???

there is usually a pits walkabout at Silverstone every year .

You get to see all the cars , except for one year Ferrari wouldnt open up their garage doors which was unfair to the fans . All the other teams were very fair though .

Grid Girls my man!

take a lot of film or a lot of disposable cameras and snap away my friend. if you have a scanner then scan some images from the race and post them here-not the drivers mind, the grid girls will do just fine

If you are expecting to see or even meet any drivers then forget it!!! The teams will leave some old parts of cars on stands for you to gawpe at and that will be about it. The next thing will be the pit marshals and rescue crews trying to get you out of there. Cos after all, (no offence) you don't belong there and Bernie doesn't want the unwashed masses in his pits!!!!

But if you were to go to a Champ Car race.......!!!!!!!!!!

there things are different.

you would meet drivers, team owners, past drivers and allsorts of "personalities".

but that's just CART, you know, the lesser cousin of F1. The cousin that allows the fans (the people that fund the sport), access to all areas in order that they might enjoy the experience and come again.

but maybe I'm just a cynic!!!

I'll bring the digital camera. If anything interesting pops up, I'll be sure to post it. BTW, I've got a good shot of the SAP 'grid girls' from last year's qualifying, but that's old news.

Sounds like it will be interesting.

Doubt you will see the grid girls either.Do they appear before the cars come on to the grid? By which time you will be back in your stand.I saw the Silverstone 'walkabout' on German TV.It was several hours before race start.I think you need a £800? Paddock Club ticket.Oh,and there was a marshal with a large placard'No filming or recording allowed'Not sure whether this includes still photography-digital or otherwise.

I did that in Silverstone five years ago. By then every team had garage open. I didn't see any of the drivers.

They used to do that in Canada but when the teams decided to close the garages and urge people to run through and get out, Mr. Legault closed it down as it was "unfair to the fans." I'll be interested to hear from someone who does this at the USGP, as apparently this has been added to try to stop the steep slide in ticket sales. I have the feeling that people who are used to what they see at the Brickyard 400 walkthrough will be seriously disappointed and that is the audience they are trying to woo.

Wasn't this only to be on the Thursday before the weekend? Don't imagine you'll see very much at all. Or was that Hungary I'm thinking of?

I've sneaked in to Silverstone a few times during the grand prix and wandered up and down the pitlane without a thingy round me neck. "Met" most of the drivers, so many poseurs though! A few of us got grinned at by Hakkinen as he prepared to shoot away on his scooter.

The USGP pit walkabout is the thursday before the race, from 8:00am - noon. Cameras are allowed. Whether there is anything worth filming remains to be seen.

btw: This is only available to current ticket holders.

NO!! Tickets for the walkabout were sent unsolicited to all USGP ticket holders. Free admission, free parking. All it costs is time.

"Walkabouts" in ChampCar have allowed me the opportunity to shake hands with Jackie, Emerson, Mario, Alex, Juan...

All for twenty bucks.

That's what racing should be all about.

This would have no appeal to me at all.Doubt that any drivers, celebs, even pit girls will be there by Thursday morning. All you will see is mechanics setting things up.

Attila should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
In the year 2001 I visited every European GP and had Paddock Club passes. I went to all the pit walkabout and never actually met anybody rich and famous there. Its worth to see once, because the technology and organization is amazing, but other than that it is quite boring. It is also interesting to see the difference among the teams, as I said it is worth it once, go and enjoy.
