Jaguar4 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

the alegra riley should be a former ganassi riley ford or the chassis used by MSR in 2014. If you look well, the car has side exhausts and the turbo air take that only the ford ecoboost powered riley had, never seen before on a BMW/dinan one

According to Sportscar365, it's the old Starworks car. The turbo air intake was for the Honda engine they used back in 2014. I believe that engine is the same as what's in the ESM and Shank Ligiers now.

Why aren't the Mazdas testing?

They would probably break on the installation laps in any case.

The Honda engine first used just door mounted intakes like the Ford doors, than sprouted the ears on the sides of the greenhouse.

That's definitely a Ford engine cover.

lol you just anticipate my post using the same pics I was going to use to prove that the "new" alegra riley couldn't be the bmw/HPD starworks riley. To me alegra is using the MSR riley second chassis, also because I knew that one of them was sold to RG racing last year.

Predictions on any BoP adjustments post test? Seems close within each category. If anything it could be on speed gaps between classes. Awesome to see that the GTD pole time has a potential to go sub 2 mins

Marshall Pruett also says Alegra's car is the ex Starworks car that won at RA in 2013. I'm assuming that John and Marshall did their homework on this. Not to mention John quoted Carlos de Quesada.

I guess "Mazda" is already out of cash or the second race as they have to rely on the services of miss Ihara...

You can tell the age of the Lola considering it's the same thing she drove at LM years ago, right... and even then it wasn't cutting edge

But she probably won't get to drive it anyway in the race as the car will be retired due to ECU or transmission or exhaust or whatever issues that handicaps it this time round. Improved speeds - achieved by switching crap diesel to some old petrol powerplant they had forgotten to the warehouse for five years - don't mean anything if overall reliability still stinks.

She did fine at Fuji. That's a track she may be familiar with. Nearly every p2 has an amateur driver. She'll be good to put in during caution periods.

Gent drivers or not, Sebring is certainly not the greatest place for drivers that haven't got the pace. Assuming this will be her first visit, it's a tall order for her.

The article said she tested there with Mazda. So she's not totally clueless on the track.

OK. Skimmed it, TBH, but testing is one thing
Thanks. Should be interesting!

Two weeks. Wish I was going but it's 70 up here already. That old airfield in the armpit of FLA is going to be warm!

Looks dry on the 10 day forecast. I guess we know what that means.

Last year it was well into the 90s - I enjoyed it and wouldn't mind a repeat.

You can keep that wet stuff in GA though!

Btw, updated schedule, the TBA series didn't materialize so we get treated with later starts on Wed + Thu and an earlier finish on Fri.

Yeah, that warehouse-engined Mazda ... lasted pretty well at Daytona. And was pretty fast.

No idea how the car will fare at Sebring ... but the chassis is proven and the engine should be up to the task. Whether the cars will be competitive, who knows?

Mazda is pretty serious about this effort ... they wouldn't have been dumping money into the cars for so many seasons if they weren't serious. Pretty sure they are already looking ahead to 2017---and they still spent a lot on this year's car. Not saying Mazda is going to sweep the series or anything, but they were on pace at Daytona.

"Lasted pretty well..." ???

May I remind you of the achieved "Mazda" total lap counts at Daytona
2014 - 814L (DNF/445+DNF/369)
2015 - 546L (DNF/348+DNF/198)
2016 - 338L (DNF/327+DNF/11)

That reliability improvement line sure has been steady!

And 'dumping money' into cars, is that a joke? It's old camouflaged Lola with no updates or aero, and the only thing carrying Mazda name is the old engine they used in LMP1 years ago (now that the diesel has been finally dumbed for good). And the operation itself, outsourced to small Speedsource subsidiary and now seemingly also funded by amateur drivers.

That being said, I think they'll do okay later in sprint races, particularly when the field consists only of few leftover DPs, Shank and DW.

For a brand new engine it lasted well. Combining two cars for your total lap count is misleading. Why so negative anyway? And how do you know what they did to the Lola? You assume too much. Instead of being positive about them even participating you rag on their shortcomings. Peachy

I think it's great Chiana brings hard facts to the discussion, finally something we can measure and not go by options, feelings, emotions, etc. His presentation is not misleading at all, on the contrary, he also listed the individual laps per car which show the same trend as the combined numbers. His conclusion is spot-on, the Mazda program is a low-budget effort and hardly anything to get excited about. Bringing in rent-a-ride drivers won't help it going forward.

But yes, it appears they're showing more speed.

Every cloud has it silver lining I guess...

Now, is the engine new or not?
