We went to Durban a couple of years ago and have been figuring out the track on our street map. The hotel you can see by the track (on the left after the first corner) is the Blue Waters - I wouldn't like to think what rates they are charging for the weekend!

However, there are many, many more hotels to the south of the circuit on the seafront - roughly within 1-2 miles of the track (going by my rough "thumb measurement" and the scale. They might be a better option price-wise but, of course, you wouldn't get the viewing advantage.

It was also good to see a strong turn out from the local fans. All the grandstands seemed to be full.

Indeed. I think that's an advantage of a city street circuit.

Lots of fun. Seems it is possible to overtake on a street circuit in a single seater.

As a sceptic when it started up, I'm very pleased that this series has proved me very wrong. Still not over sure about the Nations bit, but who cares when you get racing like that?

"overtaking is an art", a phrase mentioned on the Verstappen flags. Well, not allways, as the sprints race tells us. Still, great races we had today.

hey there guys!

What a race! The final tally's are in and a total of 117 000 people watched the race over the 3 days, with 70 000 on race day.

The Bluw Waters hotel is the hotel right next to the track. I dont know if you noticed, but there were 2 tower cranes right next to the start finish area. they are working on a new hotel that opens right onto the beach at the Suncoast Casino complex, it should be ready by November 2006. Another hotel will comence construction next to it in June, but that one will only be ready late 2007. So there will be many moe hotel rooms there by next time...

But the main hotel concentration is further along the beachfront, all within easy walking distance, or you can take the beachfront bus service, or for the 2008 one, the new monorail.

Put some of the other countries to shame - SA should be very proud of what they achieved!

The apparant success of Durban might be a good sign for more Street races. I'm told that the Aussie round will only happen if its a street race around the old Olympic site. Eastern Creek lost buckets.

Gold Coast and Adelade already sell outs for champcars/V8 Supercars. I think Sydney needs a street circuit?
