I think in situations like that the stream is shut down rather than the broadcaster trying to trace the multiple viewers who are watching it. I can't say I've heard of anybody being prosecuted over streaming either. Its certainly going to be something people will do in 2012. Not everyone has access to Sky and they will look for methods of viewing the sport they follow. I don't see it as a big deal to be honest.

It's copyright infringement. AFAIK in other areas like music and so on they might snatch one out of, say, a thousand illegal downloaders and prosecute him as a deterrent. I haven't heard a prosecution in this area of streaming. I suppose this is the closest I've seen.

At this point I'd just like to confirm Ten-Tenths position on this:

Ten-Tenths does not support or advocate illegal streaming of copyright content.

I would hope not, that would be silly if it did.

I keep seeing that phrase used here, is it a 10 Tenths joke or something?

Nope. It's just something I use to show the high contrast of wrong doing. However, it appears that this sort of thing hasn't yet been ruled out on Ten-Tenths.

In that case we've nearly filled a page discussing complete drivel. I was trying to work out what 'eating babies' has to do with this thread, but perhaps its a waste of my time trying to understand?

Oh yeah while we're on the subject I played golf the other day with Adrian.

The way I see it Henners is using the power of the enemy against the enemy. He uses F1 to focus his mind and gain spiritual balance on Sunday before throwing himself into the battle against Murdoch when the week commences.

This way Murdoch is the instrument of his own destruction.

Thanks for that, I had no idea the Dept of Homeland Security was closing down Sports streaming sites!! Is that a bit like getting a visit from MI5?? Sounds a bit over the top to me even if it is illegal I can't see how a student downing a few beers with his mates whilst watching baseball on a dodgy stream threatens the state particularly!!

Anyway it's obviously illegal and so we shouldn't do it let alone condone the practice.

What about this SKY to go service? Could you log on to a pals account if he was away with his permission or is that ilegal too?

Yes you could log onto someone else's SkyGo as long as they gave you their Sky ID ... this isn't a good idea as it would also give you access to their email and you could view their billing you could even change their account etc.

While we are looking at things, lets not forget that if he takes the userId without asking, that could be either Theft of userId, and then the privileges that go with it and/or fraud, in that he is pretending to be someone he isnt.

*note: I am not a lawyer, and am merely speculating wildly whilst I await the oven to get to the right temperature for this baby that I am in no way going to eat later.

Not sure about other countries but in the UK it is a civil tort not a criminal offense. That doesn't mean it's legal and I don't seek to encourage but it does mean that although you can be sued for damages in a civil court the simple act of downloading or copying cannot land you in a criminal court or get you a criminal record. Of course if you sell your copy it's likely to constitute fraud as well as a variety of other possible offenses (depending on exactly how you do it) then it is criminal.

Of course in a civil case the monetary damages can climb to silly heights and the prosecution don't have to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt just a balance of probablilites. This is why shops have taken to using the civil courts on suspected shop lifters, they can effectively bypass the protection given to citizens by the law and terrorise people who may well be innocent into paying damages that are effectively fines.

I don't know about that, surely they can ask some geezer from Essex raceway or somewhere to commentate on that!

It's about time Ben had a job commentating on F1 again.

Let the Essex raceway guy do BBC F1 and leave Ben where he is. Just my opinion..... Still gutted.

I'm 50/50 on this - it'll be a shame to lose Ben from the BTCC comm box, but I've been struggling to think of anyone else who I'd be happy with doing the F1 job so from that point of view I'm very pleased.
