Lola should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
What about the 1980's F3 airboxes held on by rubber loops. At speed they stretched due to the airflow and broke the seal between box and manifold.

In 1982 a Formula Ford was caught with Nitrox Oxide in it's Fire Extinguisher. A button was connected to the footrest which put a quick blast into the carb at the right moment. The cars were never as quick again.........

Does nitrous oxide really work if you haven't adjusted the mixture setting of the engine?

I gather they had. The sudden burst of speed around Thruxton raised a few eyebrows.

I remember this back in the '80s but it was a US drag racer in the NHRA Pro Stock category.
He was caught when the plumbed in fire extinguisher exploded, it was filled with Nitrous Oxide.
If I remember rightly he was a Policeman by profession!!

Has anybody mentioned the Sierra RS 500 wheel arch extensions being asked by the scrutineers to be moved to the correct position?
Or the BMW E30 M3s being disqualified from their first race for having roof skins made of the wrong material?.

And Volvo 240 Turbos?, once the homologation was approved many were "converted back" to standard 2 door saloons by having the go faster bits removed! not quite in the spirit of things but they weren't the only ones to do this.
Vauxhalls Chevette HS, (I have a bit of an interest in these) where they obtained homologation before any of the intended 400 road cars had been produced.
The first event was the RAC Rally 1976 and all was ok until scrutineering in Portugal 1978!!

I can't remember if the Lightweight E-Type homologation has been mentioned. The rules laid down how many of a variation or development had to be made but didn't say for the base model. So Jaguar declared the Lightweight with all the go faster bits to be the basic model and the normal production car as the development version. Hence no need to produce 50, 100 or whatever Lightweights.
