mine used to be literally on a keyring loop on my zip it hangs the diameter of a key ring metal loopy thing, Whats that an inch? Since Germany I have had a quick snap neck thingy, now it is round my neck and zipped into my overalls if i need it i have to drag it out, takes a second but well out the way.

Through the shoulder lapel has been tried and tested, you can step back and the(snap thingy as Dan puts it) just comes away leaving you free to leg it if that be the case

That only works if the whistle gets entangled.
What if the larnyard it self gets entangled, then the snappy thing has no affect.

The lanyards are supposed to snap/release no matter how they are tangled, so therefore release whatever pressure is being applied.

I have my whistle on a lanyard that snaps at the point where the whistle is held, and also at the back of my neck, so double the safety
