Speed should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Prost breaking records ?!?

Not talking about Alain..., talking about "Prost Grand Prix F1 Team".

I don't recall this team breaking any record on testing seasons.

Do you ?

PS: Getting better times than other teams at the same testing session is different than breaking circuit records, I guess...

Hmmm, not perhaps breaking records, but being quicker than they would expected to be. i.e. setting similar times to the big teams.

I thought that on one particular test day they had indeed broken an unofficial lap record, but their record was subsequently beaten by another team a day or week or whatever afterwards (Ferrari, I believe...). Speculation at the time (can't remember if it was proved true) was that they were running underweight to attract sponsors, as they never achieved anywhere near the same pace again.

At any rate, I don't have a link to that story or even know what track it was at (Barcelona or Valencia or Jerez), so maybe my post is useless!!!

I think 'ramping' is probably the best expression for Prost's pre season performance.

How about this for an ironic quote from a profile on Alain Prost.

" At the start of the 1997 season Ligier, for many years the French national team, was purchased by Alain and he returned to racing one more time, only this time as the owner. 1997 was a difficult year, but if Alain applies the same determination he showed as a driver then the future will be bright for the team called Prost."

Hmmm...

I remember when Alesi was running with the big boys in testing, I was completely fooled. I've regretted it ever since.
