I met Murray!

I attended the BAFTA television awards last night (Sunday) and had the honour of congratulating Murray Walker at the after show dinner.

It was a privilege to be in the company of a man who has done so much for our sport over the past five decades. He is a true gentleman and a legend.

JGM should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Am I the only one who thinks that Raymond Baxter seems to have been air-brushed out of British TV motor sports commentating history? This idea that Murray Walker has been the main commentator on British TV for F1 for 50 years is a load of twaddle.Throughout the sixties and into the seventies Raymond Baxter was the BBC's main man, ably assisted by the late John Bolster. Murray was there on TV mostly covering moto-cross and other minor forms of motor sport. He may have been covering F1 on the radio and occasionally on TV but he definitely wasn't the main man until well into the seventies.

Its great to see Murray getting something back for all the hard work he put in to the commentary he did - no doubt we'll see tribute quotes from many of the people in the forum soon!!!!

Murray Walker deserves that kind of honour as he has been perhaps the most remembered and important sport commentator ever, arguably people like football's Jonathan Pearce and of course Ben Edwards have had their styles inspired by Murray's 'shoot first, ask questions later' approach. Respect Murray!

i have to say that i'm glad murray retired, otherwise the decision to watch sky's p-p-v service would have been a tough one and maybe i'd have ended up missing out on their excellent coverage! my dream would be to see SIR murray and martin brundle on sky, 2 birds with 1 (£12) stone!!!!
