I have been to see terry briggs Audi TT - lovely little beastie, got some nice pictures of it in the snow, I'll post some here at some point. Its for sale by the way if you want a potent bit of kit and you have 12 grand spare.
Any more suggestions? and does anybody know how to get in contact with Andy Burton?

Jon Burn has a Metro 6R4 thats been played with quite a bit. The main change is that he has lenghtend the wheel base by about 7 inches so it is near to the wheel base of an Escort Cosworth.

SS have a look on his website at

Yes I think Jon Burns is special, I may be wrong but I don't think any other Metro 6R4 has had a 7 inch piece added to the middle of the car(plenty have been shortened though ).

I was at longcross in september for my clubs rally, there was a toyota starlet cosworth there does anyone know more about this car?
Its a bit more special than the Starlet(if it's just the engine), there's plenty of cars fitted with a none standard engine, a common one is fitting a 2.0L Vauxhall 16V engine into Mk2 Escorts.

I agree with egor. The bodywork mods make it significantly different to the usual 6R4, and so worthy of inclusion; even if just to show a move against conventional rally wisdom (ie; Audi shortening the wheelbase on the Quattros & the success of the 206WRC with a shorter wheelbase than competitor cars).

stretched wheelbase, powered by a Rover V8, and used a lot of Ford RS200 bits in the suspension as I recall- that would certainly have to count as a special

Someone also put a Rover V8 in a 6R4 for club rallying in the UK at one point (ironic, given that the original prototypes used a V6 cut down from the V8....)

imull has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
There was a bloke who had a twin engined car. I think it was a Scirocco. This was raced sucessfully for a few years. The rear engine was an Auto and the front engine was a manual

If i remember correctly the Sirroco was driven by Kim Mather, and i believe the rear engine was turbo, front engine normally aspirated.

I saw at at an event i was servicing on, must be at least ten years ago, never heard what happened to it.

Excuse me for resurrecting such an old thread, but I did an article on Kim's twin engined Scirocco for Triple C magazine in 1986. The engines were not turbocharged, but had superchargers (both engines giving about 180hp each) and was probably the scariest car I ever sat in...

What was marvellous about Kim's creation was he managed to overcome a lot of the problems that the VW factory team, who built a Jetta on the same principles, were never able to solve. That he built it in his own, modest garage from salvaged cars was a triumph.

He competed in rallies and the Rally Race Car series (?) with quite some success, not sure what happened to it afterwards.
