The fact he's with Epsilon probably explains a lot! He's still off Valsecchi's pace though.

Perhaps Giedo had the same feeling as we had and decided it was time to show his potential? I hope so...but we'll have to see if he can keep driving like today.

To follow on, don't know Monkey head - A1 Dubai perhaps?

Carbone is also doing sensible times and it looks like he's doing them in half the amount of laps as anyone else.

Mind you he ought to be competitive as he's quite experienced. I still think he's got what it takes and if he does the full year i'd stick him on my list of potential champs - that could rejuvenate his career plateau...

Maldonado is testing for almost everyone!! Is Renault paying for him still?!!!

Would you pay for him if he is not allowed to race in Monaco?

Good point, hadn't thought about that one! Is he banned from racing there indefinitely then?

No - there were reports at the time saying that, but he is not banned.

Thanks K-b.

So until someone says otherwise, we can assume that he is still part of the RDD programme and they are picking up the tab for all this testing?

Given that RDD deals are one year rolling with performanance clauses, we cant assume anyone is currently in RDD, including Kovalainen who I assume is now fully Renault F1.

Theres tons of drivers out there testing with seemingly bottomless budgets, why would it be surprising that Maldonado would be the same?

Hello

Normally, RDD doesn't pay the tests (personal) for their drivers.
Also, normally, RDD drivers don't test everywhere.
But that's only what's "normal", so... who knows?

I suppose it would be a bit naughty for Renault to help their own drivers over others in a series they back!

'Not in the spirit of things i wouldn't have thought old chap!'

Any more gossip?

Kobayashi is doing F3 Euroseries next year with ASM.
He isn't doing WSR because Toyota doesn't want him to... He's part of the TDP and he didn't even test in WSR as champion of F.Renault Eurocup and Italy. I think none of the drivers who have won F.Renault championships and being part of Toyota's young drivers program had ever done this test... Isn't it the case with Briscoe and Perera who both won the Italian championship of F.Renault some years ago?

Anyone want to take a punt and start putting some names with seats then? i would wager that Clairay will end up in one of the DAMS cars anyway.

OK now from what i've heard some drivers are already confirmed.

Comtec: Susie Stoddart

Cram: Hanley

Draco: Maldonado

Carlin: Fleming and Aleshin

Then Eurointernational want Carbone badly from what I've read.
That's all for now but it's still kind of early....

What are your sources for the Hanley and Maldonado confirmations? I haven't read about those anywhere.

Hanley is linked to Cram from a long time now and he didn't test anywhere else. I believe he will be with them for sure.

Dirani to Comtec?

I thought I read something on Italiaracing and some other sites but can't remember where exactly...but i'm pretty sure it's true.
As already said, Hanley is linked with Cram for a long time and has only tested with them. Plus he was racing with them last year in FR 2.0 Italy.

I just checked and the thing about Maldonado I read on italiaracing. Actually they don't exactly say he is confirmed. They only say that since he's been testing so much with them he could be the 1st Draco driver confirmed. And they are testing at Vairano tomorrow (monday 19/12) and there will be Maldonado again and Kostka.

Sorry about that confirmation thing, I didn't read that carefully enough...
