hey, well Tim Dodwell and salvador valiente, names i remember well from my time in the road saloons. I stopped because of the expense. turning point was near end of season at coombe where I qualified 7th or 8th - spent the winter on new suspension and a few engine mods, testing etc., went to coombe in new season, qualifed over a second quicker and found myself 15th on the grid, enough is enough. all good fun though.

I have some photos on this Mac just trying to figure out how to attached. they all include me of course but plenty of other cars are shown too.

havent done any racing sincce 1992 apart from Karts of course. and if any of you havent tried a 125 Kart on an outdoor track, I recommend it, CRAZY!

There are a few of us still racing - mostly competing with the Classic Touring Car Club. Come along to one of the 2009 meetings, and have a chat. I'm having a laugh (?!) on Saturday - racing at Donny in the dark (6pm) in the Mighty Minis!!! Gulp.
By the way the 175x70 tyres had less drag on the straights than the 185x60!

HI All,

Looking for a little help does any one have any result sheets from 89/90/91/92 I need to get 8 copies of results to apply for a new licence, unfortunatley I cant find any.
Ive very recently bought my old Super road car back (Saab 9000),and I am going to be having a run out in the Pre 93 touring cars which Im really excited about. Im sure I finished in more than 8 races even if it was in the gravel i just need to prove it to the MSA.

Be nice to see you out wiith us Steve and welcome to the forum, I have some from the Road Saloons did you go out in that or Modified Productions Saloons? I had to do the same thing when I came back in 2005 after 8 or 9 years away, the BARC were quite helpful as well although I was well known to them so maybe worth contacting whoever you were racing (BRSCC?) with and ask if they could put a word in to the MSA on your behalf.

Mark I was Chairman of a racing club for 10 or 11 years that ran with the BARC one of the most successful saloon car championships of that decade which neccesitated quite a few meetings with the BARC at Thruxton which is what I was refering to. I would have thought as a racer you would have had a tad more sympathy for a fellow racer that had a seasons bad luck as i did in 2008 especially when I am running on a very tight budget doing all my own preparation work and BTW most of the probelms were silly things like fan belts throwing off or rocker cover gaskets leaking which looked very dramatic but were nothing and remember I did pick up two awards at the CTCRC awards do for third in class in two different championships in two different cars for 2008, can you top that? Oh and I did'nt pick up the Pist 'n' Broke award did I? ;-)

Here here Al to it being one of the best saloon championships ever! Why dont you start a separate thread of (MODPRODS) where are they now etc. it will be just as popular i am sure as the this one.

Thanks Dave, I may just do that. I50 plus registered paid up members, three full grids usually with reserves, international company sponsorship with prize and grid money, we had to be doing something right ;-)

Al, it was a light hearted rib tickle, i truly appreciate everyone that races, whatever the budget, i know there is no one more dedicated, "its in yer blood son" hopefully we can see some decent clean reliable racing this year!

Hi Steve can't help with 89-91 as I was in the road saloons, but i did the super's from 92-94 and have all the timesheets. Seem to remember you doing a lot more than 8 races so that shouldn't be a problem, I'll pm you sometime over the next week when i've had a chance to dig them out and scan them.
Also thinking of coming out again in mine in the next year or 2 (after a 12 year break) once I've blown the cobwebs off the car & me

PS: I was also 1 of the 150+ (1995-97)

Yeah I know just a bit sensitive at the moment, still I did survive long enough at Brands to hopefully help your sponsorship quest!

Hi Al been looking at the regs for the various championships, the car is to ModProd regs as last raced in 1997 (wow can't believe I raced for 10 years and have already been out of it for 12 years ) so the Hot Saloons class of the Classic Thunder looks pretty much the same, Gp1 would pobably cost more as it would involve going back to 13" wheels and smaller brakes. The biggest expense I think will be suit, helmet, harness etc.

Look at the CTCRC Pre-93 regs as well because you can up the wheel and tyre and brake size in there so you may be OK in fact that area has been slightly changed for this year allowing a bigger brake to fit within the 2" bigger allowed diameter. The rule did say an original diameter wheel had to be able to be fitted over the uprated brakes but as this was causing problems with the Vento and Tomcat ex-challenge cars this has been changed. Your suit may still be OK mine is and I also stopped racing in 97. There is also a bit more latitude than the Group 1 regs with coil over conversions and glass fibre bonnet and boot allowed. BTW remember Adrian Fuller? He is racing with us in fact he is the clubs social secretary and does a very good job.

Thanks for the info Al, I did look at the Pre-93 regs but didn't like the idea of not being able to use any form of axle location, in my case a Panhard rod. As it states "No other additional suspension components are permitted."

Hot saloons still looks favorite, just put some plastic windows in, change the rubber and it's pretty much there

Oh thats odd I must say I never noticed that before as their use is allowed in all the other club championships complete with rod ends and all cars from other championships within the club apart from Clssic Thunder are elligible. I will raise this at the next committee meeting, if you fancy running and thats the only area that does not comply hold fast on the windows and I will see what I can find out.

Ok cheers Al, at least I would have a choice of championships to do if it was allowed, only looking to do 3 or 4 races a year to have a bit fun

Will do. BTW you can get a three race 'taster' membership with CTCRC and BARC for a fee of just £25 which may also suit you.
