some pow wows happening tonight and over weekend in melbourne about a number of options, none of them confirmed entries yet, but 3 separate cars in discussion... all outright contenders.

I haven't even studied the B12 website, but is there a section for drive/rs available?

If not, perhaps a sub thread for here.....

IMO, if anyone is interested in a drive, say so, and say what class (budget range).

There ARE some TOP drives available, possibly

Stay tuned.

pm me to raise a hand.

B12 site has no detail of support races, just a contact for each race/type (who I have emailed) and a note to say 'regs coming soon'

12 hour tyre regs

I am sure that the promoter is doing themselves out of quite a few entrys with the " must use expensive Michelin control tyres rule" I know of at least three in Aus and one OS entries who have there own tyre deals... what a shame the commercial greed comes before anything else..

Agreed.Difficult for promoter to balance budget so easy to understand. The problem is that when race moved from local only event it also should open up tyres.Like attracting different marques-- different tyres add to the race interest.
In reality--- as of now-- I know of at least 10 potential entries compromised by the tyre situation-- some quality teams, cars & drivers-- both local and international.
The point of control tyres is to contain costs and act as an equaliser in a series -- none of which applies here in a one off event.
What is even worse to me-- is that no thought has been given to what compounds are allowed and what cars they will suit-- so some cars are disadvantaged before they even think about going.
Time for the race to grow up!!

Take your point but the "greed" comment is probably a bit harsh - the promoter may well need the Michelin deal to balance the books or may be locked into a multi-year contract with Michelin that means unbreakable commitment.

Running such a big event with a relatively small crowd at a profit at all would not be easy. On top of that, the promoter is going to be relying on advice from "experts" on items such as specs for cars, tyre types etc so it is more likely that fault lies in that direction.

Shame that teams with deals are not able to take part if they'd otherwise be there though - totally agree with you there.

They should run tyres like a restaurant BYO licence...

You can use your own, but pay a "corkage"...

The revenue is essential to make the event viable, and suppliers simply wont come to the event if they can't be sure of trade levels.

Wack a corkage fee on, and open it up.....

How much are they really going to get out of the tyre deal anyway?!

Put the entry fees at the correct level to make the event viable and let people run what they want! All this sort of thing does is just **** off the competitors!

spot on FF, yes your right they need the revenue , dont dispute that, the corkage fee makes it fair for everyone and the promoter still gets $$$$$$, everybidy wins.. ATM it simply makes the tyre price fixed and the deals arnt transperant, teams need the opportunity to shop around for the best deal and tyre package, tyres for an event like this are one of the single largest expenses....

Silver 3 still has trouble swallowing the humble pie though

For sure, offer some kind of incentive to the Michelin runners, if that's who the control supplier would be, but for those who think they have a better tyre available from another supplier, or would rather simply use another brand for commercial reasons, then allow them to do it, but pay the corkage anyway.

If Mr Simonsen is running in the 458.. who is his patron? Presumably the patron will also want to drive...
