Why am I not surprised .......
Lets face it though, the actual incident was not really too big an issue. I think what has upset everyone is the VERY obvious dubious and unsportsmanlike team tactics leading up to R3. Personally I had been looking forward to seeing two great drivers fight for a championship but what we saw was one driver beaten by an army It wont change now though as that will cause even more Congrats RK and HSV - I believe you had the ability to win fair and square though, shame you didnt ..... |

how can you say that? in race 1 and 2 kelly couldn't do it. in race2 as soon as Tander stopped holding Lowndes up he pulled away. why would have race 3 been any different? |

I had to post my thoughts on the issue, given what has been said before.
I can't believe all this talk about a 4 car army beating Lowndes. Sure, HRT should have been 'restricted' in their assistance to Kelly (but as if Todd wouldn't help his brother anyways), but Garth Tander was quite within his rights to (legally) help Rick win the title. Hypothetically, if Jaime Whincup hadn't gone wide at Turn 2 in Race 1 and punted off Jason Richards, he would have been up there doing exactly the same thing with Lowndes. All forms of motorsport have teammates helping teammates win races and especially championships. How many F1 titles did Michael Schumacher win without teammates running rear gunner for him (or slowing down opponents)? And all this talk about Rick being an undeserving champion - V8 Supercars brought in a new points structure after Mark Skaife's dominating 2002 season. Their main objective - reward consistency. They were the rules brought in, and every single driver was driving under the same rules. Marcos Ambrose won 2 titles under these rules, and while he won his share on races and rounds, it was his consistency that won him the titles. Russell Ingall won 1 round in 2005 on his way to the championship. And while Rick Kelly only won 1 race, he finished all 34 races with an average finishing position of 6th. And under the points system for all drivers, he gained the most points. Craig Lowndes had his fair share of results this year, but it was his failure to finish races was his undoing. Hell, he only came back into contention for the title after his mid season winning streak. On the other hand, Mark Skaife won the most races this season, yet finished 16th-odd in the championship because he couldn't finish races. The point system has been flawed for 4 years, but they were the rules. And under those rules Rick Kelly finished with the most points, so therefore he is Champion. Even if he wasn't the most successful driver of the season. |

previously Lowndes whinged that other fords went letting him through
then whinged that the results are manufactured then whinged that tander held him up Tander was faster in spots and slower in others Lowndes numerous times tried to unsettle his car by bumping his car (tander got a questionable drive through, it is amazing how the goal post get moved from 5 laps down to two) lowndes gave him a tap on the way in too the pits (badsportsman like behavoiur) then in the 3rd race lowndes is off line after pulling a stupid stupid move for a would be champion on Todd, defends his postion by hugging the white line (just like tander) Rick touches him, just as lowndes did on tander numerous times takes him self out as well as the race leader and causes a multi pile up then instead of repairing or attempting to repair. He putter around the track being a danger to himself and other competitors whilst whinging all the way |

SmokinJ, it's quite funny that you apparently see no reason for Lowndes to be upset.
I doubt you'd find a driver in the field, no, a driver on the planet, actually a person on the planet who wouldn't be firing on all cylinders after being spun when you're in a position to win the championship, let alone spun by the person on track who would gain the most from your downfall. I have no doubt that Rick's name will remain on the trophy, but I do doubt that it will be remembered in the same way a good clean fight to the end would have been remembered. Rick Kelly, points leader at the end of the season ...yes.. "Champion".. no. |

Tom Walkinshaw told Rick just before race 3, loosely quoted "If you want to be champion, you need to produce a champions race". That was not the race of a champion, he is not the Champion.

Far better to let kelly keep the championship (it's not worth anything anyway) as he will always be remembered as the most "unworthy champion" in the history of the "entertainment industry" = a great tag to wear for the rest of your life .

Craig was lucky to even start race 2 & 3, not many have a car left after going off at the Hayshed!
Sour grapes, Tall poppy, Daddies Boy, what you should be saying is "Changing of the guard". Rick was smarter all season, lucky, you bet, would you say 7 times World Champ Michael Schumacher is an (unworthy champion) or Aryton Senna, who both shunted other drivers off the road to win Championship? Rick wanted it more and he will go on and win more then CL..... hang on he already has. |

Hypothetically, a spinning Bright would have also put pay to Lowndes' title chances in Race 1 as Lowndes was only mm away from toe out... I wonder if Ford fans would be so critical of Kelly if that happened? |

So you want to talk about Mr Skaife taking Mr Lowndes off the road now too?
