Speedweek 2003 - Why bother ?

Was just wandering around the SBS Webpage and stumbled across a link to the official Speedweek webpage.

The link funnily enough is : www.speedweek.com.au

My, haven't they been left in a hole now there's no more PowerTour and PROCAR has moved to Seven ?

All they will be covering this year is:
F1 Superboats
F Extreme Bikes
Jetsprint Boats
Karts
Offshore Powerboats
Production Sportscars
Sprintcars
Superbikes

Looks like I won't need to bother programming Speedweek into the video anymore. The only thing on there I'm remotely interested in is the Production Sportscars and it looks like they're only showing 2 actual races from now until May.

Also, have any of you guys actually read the description for Speedweek in your TV guides ? For as long as I can remember it has read:
Quote:
A comprehensive roundup of motor sport, featuring drag racing, speedway, NASCAR, Indycar and touring car action.
Apart from Speedway, none of these categories are planned for future episodes of Speedweek and I've never ever seen Speedweek cover NASCAR or Indycar !!! (Well...except for those NASCARs that were running around with PowerTour)

Goodbye Speedweek.

Cant be any worse than the coverage of the Yamaha Formula Extreme meeting on the teev at the weekend of the Home of Motorsport.... it was like watching an infomercial trying to sell motorbikes... yukk!!

Speedweek covered local NASCAR when Andrew Miedecke was winning a few seasons ago.... never seen IndyCar there tho

SBS showed the 1993/94 and 94/95 Australian NASCAR Championship, i don't think they formed any part of Speedweek though.

I suppose the good thing about no big categories being on Speedweek is that some of the other smaller categories are getting a go, like Production Sportscars, the boats and so on, which can only be a good thing.

I think they used to do a bit in the middle of the show where they would do a ten sec blot of whatever they could get their hands on.

Yes it was last year and the offical name for them was v8 stockcars but as Andrew said "they are bloody Nascars, why dont they just call them that and stop confusing the publuc".
I wasted a few Video Tapes so far this year on speed week but Im just sticking to Pro Car on seven ( So I can watch Andrew stick the Porsche in the wall again and again) and Tens V8 Coverare, RPM, Trackside, Superstars and Rally Coverage . SBS have lost me as well.

Miedecke's Porsche was a fair bit slower than Richards' example... it should be line ball since Quinn was so close to Richo in 2002

Richo had modified his car to be eligible for Group 1, while Miedecke's was still in Carerra Cup spec for Group 2.

In a way i think it's good that Speedweek doesn't have the major categories, that way smaller categories are getting TV time. Surely some of these categories being on Speedweek is better than it being scrapped and SBS replacing it with another Soccer show.

The problem with this country is that we host to many different catagories. maybe streamlining the catagories will increase exposure for all who survive. And yes that might even mean using the "c" word. Combine

If only we could have race meetings containing all of those at once then the best 2 or 3 from each in the one 1000 klm race at the mountain to finish off the year. That would be a funny race.

Why not make it a 24hr race at Bathurst?

I'd like to see that!

Speaking of TV coverage I notice 7 have ditched Procar for this weekend for some sport thing or another - If It Aint Motorsport it aint worth the trouble in my mind.

I think it's a pay TV thing. I'd like to know why 7 has dropped Procar coverage for this weekend - don't they still have the Brutes and the F3's to show?

They've only shown the Nations Cup and GTP Performance race from Adelaide leavingthe 2 categories you have mentioned but also the GT Production cars (is that what those are called this year ?).
