This is a book I have just finished reading, about the way Formula One pilots regard the possibility of death in their sport. Apparently many pilots have premonitions and nightmares warning them of accidents and many of them ignore these and end up injured or dead ...

The best story in this book is about Didier Pironi (the snake) who after Gilles' death had a recurring nightmare in which he was standing on a Formula One track at night and Gilles' Ferrari dropped from the sky and crushed him. As he lay dying on the track, Gilles stood looking down at him, his face covered in blood ... And of course it was not Gilles' Ferrari that dropped from the sky and crushed Pironi - it was his own.

This is a great book but it is very spooky. If you haven't read it, you should read it. It's available at our bookstore.

Could you tell me who the author is or where you got it. I have been searching on Amazon.com and other search engines and cannot find it.

Try http://tentenths.com/shop/amazon/

It is indeed a great book - some fascinating quotes from drivers - would recommend it to any of you. It also goes some way to explaining the mindset of Senna, Schumacher, Villeneuve, and others - it's worth it for that alone

True about the insights - for example, Prost says that he always drove at 90%, that he wanted to win "with the minimum of danger at the slowest possible speed." No wonder Senna found him infuriating - even at the end of his very successful career he was making a real contest of it with Senna who was burning at 110%!

Also some very thoughtful stuff about and by Georgie Hill.

Who said Georgie???

This is the book that had me standing in the bookshop for a long long time reading some of the stories. I intend to buy it as it looks fascinating.

Actually, having seen the cover, I remember seeing it in a giant Glasgow book store. However, instead I got Sid Watkins' book that day, which is also good.
