About time! If hybrids are going to gt3, that might interest more manufacturer's choices to run a hybrid gt. ACO will fall behind if this is allowed imo. They should act soon.

I must have misread it, I do not see where it says that it will be a hybrid. Rather that it is still a question as to what it's configuration will be.

It doesn't specify hybrid, it's just what everyone expects since the roadgoing version is such.

There will likely be a hybrid version tested(Honda seems VERY keen on bringing that system into GT racing), but they'll have to go a different route for homologation.

Will this be a proper GT3 car? Or a Lexus style effort where it's a bit pointless and not backed properly?

Lexus IS fully GT3 spec, just not properly homologated yet as it isn't good enough

The Lexus is GT3 spec, but until it's homologated it isn't a proper GT3 car. You won't see it racing with any of the usual suspects. I hope the same isn't going to happen to this NSX.

The Lexus will participate in IMSA's GTD class for the remainder of the 2016 from Laguna Seca onwards.

The NSX will most likely use the same sort of 'national homologation' to be brought in for 2017, both in PWC and IMSA.

I don't care if both cars don't have 'full FIA GT3 homologation' - I just wanna see them participate on track with all the others (with the NSX preferably in hybrid mode). Wish IMSA would do the same with the Glickenhaus specials!

Read recently that 2016 Super GT NSX will be raced in non-hybrid configuration. The article told that the choice came primarily from the consideration that the weight the car was able to shed without the (hybrid) system on board was more than worth the power loss...this doesn't absolutely mean that the GT3 version would follow that route, though

Sorry, 'wishful thinking' is not "just what everyone expects" as pointed out by the article itself and the authors questioning position on the matter.

It neither confirms nor denies it'll have a hybrid. But it's leaning towards having it. The gt500 car doesn't use a hybrid because it's not really worth it, plus it's not related to the road car's in any way.

GT3 cars don't need to be related to the road cars outside of bodyshape, really.

The gt3 nsx will presumably run the hybrid from the road car. The GT500 car had no such hybrid and was stuck using rwd. I wonder if that's to change in gt3?

Probably not, considering GT3 regs state 2WD only.

Rules can be rewritten. Seeing as it's a hybrid, they just might have to.

Hybrid will be such a headache for BoP and customer teams, which decides that NSX will end up stuck with works and semiworks team. In a customer class, that's not good news.

The Audi R8 is a all wheel drive street car and the R8 GT3 car is rear wheel drive.

True. But they're not hybrids. The NSX has 3; 2 front, one 'mid'. So will they have to drop it or will they allow them to run with it as-is? Remember that hybrid 911 that did alms races in it's ownn unique class? I bet Honda is looking at the rule makers with that in mind. If not allowed in gt3 internationally, PWC could slap some ballast on it and let it in the GT class.

As well as the Huracan. I do not see them bowing to Acura when they did not with Audi and Lambo, who are much larger players in GT.

With that in mind, maybe Honda has been developing a way of using all of the NSX's hybrid boost on the rear wheels. Bigger motor-generator (or multiple geared units) on the back wheels, maybe?

HPD can get plenty of hp out of the TT 3.5l V6, without any electric assist!

The ICE in the NSX should be enough. Look at the Nissan f ex. That TT 3.8 V6 is one if the most powerful engines in GT3.

I don't think Honda will be allowed to run an AWD setup. If they can get the hybrid to run on the rear wheels, I don't think snyone would care. But if so, why even bother with the hybrid system?

Makaze has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
NSX GT3 is testing now in Hybrid and non-Hybrid form......both RWD.

It would use a system like in the SGT CRZ-GT300.(racing trans with Zytec KERS)
