You can see that Tilke's gone through a few phases in his technique.
Sepang: wide, fast sweepers and lots of long corners. Bahrain: evidently he thought he'd now try long straights and plenty of really tight corners. Arguably this is his best for racing. China: now he's thinking along the lines of both Sepang and Bahrain. Long sweepers and tight corners with two long, long straights. Perhaps though not very successful. And now Istanbul, he's added the final ingredient - gradients. The track even in overview is a lot better than previous tracks, and now with these gradients evident in the photos its clear that he's finally got stuck in properly. Maybe a world of Tilkerised tracks wouldn't be so bad after all? |

Well, Istanbul does look interesting, but his modifications to pre-existing circuits still don't appeal to me. So I don't know about Tilkefying "everything."

the elevation changes here I have pointed out a while ago .....
im looking forward to this track, lets just see how it is when the f1 goes there. |

Let's hope the Istanbul track has got more gradient than Tilke's previous work, indeed. However, you can't blame Tilke for not having that much gradient in Shanghai or Sepang: there isn't all that much gradient to start off with. By the way: Bahrain and Sepang aren't exacly flat, are they.

Yer, superb race for the GP2. Hope it translates to the F1 race!
Sensational track by Tilke, only slightly spoiled by the silly triple switchback at the end of the lap. |

Knowlesy, that's indeed the only part of the track I don't like all that much. It could've done with a Rivazza-like section.

the layout is very nice. half of the quali was funny to watch how they all had probs with the wind. gp2 was even better
I dont like this huge asphalted run off areas though. this things allowing too much mistakes. |

Unfortunately, i didn't get to see any of the GP this weekend, so i'll have to wait another year to check out the track. But from what everybody says, it seems quite brilliant.

I was really impressed. T8 (the multi-apex one) challenged all of the drivers and I think that the big elevation changes add an element to Tilke's circuits that has been largely missing. It also provides good racing (look at the GP2 events).

I have to agree with Lustig that a Rivazza like section would be better. Yes the current corners do allow overtaking through them due to the pairpin after the straight and they do encourage overtaking on the main straight but I think a Rivazza section would do this just as well. Plus as many of the drivers have said that section is very boring to drive with no challenge at all.
