CanaryYellow should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The series continues with round 5 on Wednesday and with the new karts bringing the fleet total ever higher the prospect of 20 karts thundering around together looks on the cards.

I say thunder because its done nothing but rain for the last few days and the forecast shows no letup either. On the bright side the new circuits much improved camber and drainage means very little water sits on the circuit, so much so that wet weather laps have improved by over 10 seconds.

Space still available, as ever ring the circuit and book yourself a place.

Would be great to have something like that here in Australia.

Karting is very expensive and my kart sits idle in my shed because I just dont have the extra income to do it at the moment

Round 6: Weds 6th June. 6pm (as usual). Spaces still available.

After last months non stop rain now we have a drought on! Having recently hosted a round of the Covkartsport series here are a selection of quotes from the day:

The new track-surface was superb, the slight re-modelling and widening of the circuit was superb, the new toilet block is absolutely excellent, the karts were very good, the bacon baps were superb and the staff were lovely.

Many thanks to all at Red Lodge, we were the first there and straight away we were allowed a track walk and a warm welcome. As a spectator at this event only there were great views of all the track and it is probably some of the best racing i have seen for a while with various lines for some great overtaking. All round a great day. Many thanks to all involved.

the track offers so much overtaking yet been easy to defend.
The karts all handled well, my last one just had a touch of undeersteer that was all,

Despite having another dreadful day personally, I really enjoyed driving the circuit. It all turned out just as I hoped it would - circuit, karts and staff were great all day.

Cannot post any negative ones, there arent any.

New Heavyweight Class Launches

As the series continues to grow and evolve there will now be a heavyweight class introduced to run alongside the main series. Drivers over 80kgs will continue to race and score points in the main F270 Championship but will also score points towards the new Heavyweight championship which will run for the next 6 months (July-December) with the driver with the best 5 scores claiming the crown.

Formula 270 has moved into its 2nd year. Wow where did the time go?

20 entries in already (normally collect 6 or so entries on the day) so a big grid for Round 9 tomorrow at 6pm. The class for 80kgs drivers is proving popular and has helped increase the grid sizes a little.

As ever with up to 20 karts per final race there are spots on the grid available so if you want to take part in a 1 off round you are more than welcome. No joining fees, just the one off entry fee of £44 per round.

Just for good measure Club 2000 official photographer Sprocket Photography will be in attendance so you can have a more permanent momento of your day as well as glorious memories!

CanaryYellow should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Round 10 has been and gone. One of the most exciting races of the year with the front 2 exiting the final corner side by side and having a drag race to the line. Sam Tearne may have missed out on the win by the narrowest of margins but he has taken the championship by the scruff of the neck with 2 wins and a 2nd in the last 3 months propelling him to the top of the tables with an intimidating lead. Only defending champion Will Gibbs can deny Sam the title now.

Not only that but the only 3 drivers to break 53 seconds are all F270 drivers and one of them competes in the 80kgs class.

Last month saw 39 drivers compete in 2 finals, just 1 short of maximum capacity.

Little doubt the success of the series owes much to the drivers and driving standards which has been top class as drivers continue to "self police" and give places back they feel they have unfairly taken. It has led to a great atmosphere and some competetive and top class racing. Long may it continue.

Round 11 tomorrow, a few places left if anyone fancies a race under the floodlights with somewhere between 14-19 others on circuit together.

We are down to a 2 man fight for the title and it could be won tomorrow but the 80kg class is still far from over as well as individual round glory so plenty to race for.

Final round of 2012 coming up tomorrow as Red Lodge turns into bling central with a whopping 18 trophies to hand out on the night!

I will update this thread (or possibly start a new one) as the series is going for a significant format change in 2013.

Congratulations to Samuel Tearne confirmed today as the 2012 Formula 270 champion. Last years champion Will Gibbs takes runner up spot with the final podium slot going to Oliver Wheddon.

Ryan Watson, Ben White and Lewis Nurse complete the main championship trophy positions in 4th, 5th and 6th.

The 80kgs class was won in commanding style by Jeff Chapman, Marcus Lungley was the runner up with Marc Kerr in third.

Perhaps todays most unbelievable moment is the fact the lap record went tonight. With the temperature dropping below zero, ice forming in the pit lane, spare karts tryes glazing over frozen Bradley Roberts lowered Samuels lap record by over a tenth of a second! How on earth is that even possible?

Wow, 2 years since we started and the series is stronger than ever with last 2 rounds being 40 driver sellouts.

The series is very much running strong and this years championship is as competitive as ever. The circuit has seen just 8 drivers break 53 seconds in our 270cc karts and all 8 of those drivers have done so during Formula 270 rounds which just shows what a high standard the series has.

One of those 8 weighs over 80kgs while another is not only looking to claim the 80kgs class but on countback is leading the open weight main championship too!

A few spaces left for this round and entrants are always welcome to compete in a one off round if they choose to although most come back for more.

Hope to see you soon.

Round 10 next week, last month saw our 100th driver take part in 2013 and we have broken last years total of drivers already with 3 rounds to spare!

Still places available on the grid if you want to take part.

CanaryYellow should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

Another year almost in the books. The series has grown year on year with 116 different drivers driving in at least one round this year.

2011's runner up having lost the title on the tie breaker (fastest lap over the year) Chris Daines has left nothing to chance in 2013 amassing a points total out of reach of everyone else and can only lose the title by getting black flagged in December.

2nd, 3rd and 4th are split by just 2 points, 2011 Champion Will Gibbs looks secure with 5th and another 6 drivers will fight over the final championship trophy separated by 12 points in the final round next Wednesday.

Remarkably the 80kgs championship has been won by the aforementioned Chris Daines who has spent the year in the main championship showing that size is not an obstacle to success outracing lighter opponents all year. Once again the 2nd and 3rd placed trophies are up for grabs with just a handful of points splitting 2013 Covkartsport champion Jeff Chapman and Marcus Lungley.

So assuming Chris wraps up both titles he will be in the envious position of choosing to use the 270 plate or 80 plate on his kart for 2014.

It may be an "in house" championship but it is contested by some of the countries very best kart drivers who have been busy destroying Super 1 drivers and single seater drivers along the way - not to mention giving them a dressing down for their driving standards "we dont race like that here"

Very few black and white warning flags have been issued all year, the drivers have done a superb job of policing themselves and its this mentality which has been central to the success of the series.

The final round of 2013 takes place next Wednesday with 18 trophies ready to be handed out.

Full details of the 2014 Championship will be released soon.

CanaryYellow should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The 2014 Formula 270 series begins on Wednesday 5th February.

Chris Daines is looking to defend the main title and 80kgs title he won so well in 2013 as he carries the 270 plate with pride.

A strong lineup looks likely with 16 of the 2013 top 17 taking part in a random teammate endurance event last week.

The format remains the same (4 practice laps and 2 x 18 lap races with a forward and reversed grid using the circuits GX270 karts and the full 1200m circuit). There is a new optional membership scheme in place (£20 for the year) with race entries set at £46 for non members, £44 for members.

Heavier drivers are accomodated with the inclusion of the 80kgs class but as Chris demonstrated last year heavier drivers are very competitive at the circuit.

For the first time ever rounds 5 & 10 will be run using the circuit backwards (the top 50% in the standings only).

The circuit has also announced an invitational Champion of Champions round in December. Qualifying routes for this event are YoungStarz training school for under 16s, Formula 270 or the owner driver series Club 2000.

If you want any more details feel free to ask here or call the circuit directly on 01638 552316.

17 drivers recording laps between 53.0 and 53.7 (only 8 drivers have ever broken 53 seconds) gave us our most competitive round ever during round 2. Drivers really are fighting for every point and its really enjoyable to watch.
