Getting back to the racing , can we expect a result from anybody else outside the cars that have dominated the sprint rounds, will a new star emerge amongst the co-drivers, will the gun Teams co-drivers have an effect on the 2017 Championship, will the weather be a factor, will the veteran combination of Lowndes/Richards be a factor, history (that word again) tells us that Sandown can throw up an odd result?

So many questions to be answered on Sunday.
My prediction for the top 5, no particular order as its so hard to call

Lowndes/Richards
Whincup/ Dumbrell
SVG/Campbell
McLaughlin/Premat
Coulthard/D'Alberto

In saying that though, all 5 of these drivers in recent history 15 on haven't had the best of luck, SVG was the best of the lot with 2nd last year. Frosty and Canto as well as Owen and Chaz showed the best pace but were trapped by rain last year

Last year Garth won sandown, to that point he had had one podium

Does anyone else see an irony in WP celebrating the championship win of the bloke they punted after this exact race meeting last year,

Back in the day, the season endurance used to be the time when new sponsors showed up on some teams, some naming rights, some support, so that the liveries that were on the cars most of the sprint season, were maintained and suitably adjusted to incorporate the new branding.

New chassis used to debut at this event too.. to get a fresh car on the grid, fully sorted, for Bathurst.... instead we keep them around until someone in Super2 wants to buy them, otherwise they become Grandpa's axe...

Instead too, we get a full rewrite of history... for the purposes of creating additional interest in the newly painted/stickered chassis.

It is no small expense to resticker a car, to change racesuits for drivers and crew, to change pit walling in garages for the weekend. Maybe some merchandise sales offset this for some teams.. but it is still a cost nonetheless..

It would be interesting to know whether the general public, the casual viewer, actually gets benefit through increased interest from the revised stickerage for this weekend...

...especially since in a month, it usually goes back to the regular championship season design anyway...

Not a lot of thought goes into it is my impression, just the want for results. Also, Bottle O, Monster and Mega don't really have a livery that's retro and would suit, maybe a FTR design for Mega, but colours for the other two don't go well if it isn't green in some form.
