Miguel should be qualifying in the top 5 on the gridMiguel should be qualifying in the top 5 on the grid
29 March, looks like that will be my first race of 2014 to visit!

Here are my photos of last Saturday: http://www.flickr.com/photos/miguelb...7636976542684/

Had a blast that day. First time VLN at the grid, got bored quickly enough when the race started (what you expect of that piece of abomination they call the GP track?) and went to Brünnchen and the Karrussell, to shoot some more and catch up with friends over there.

Toyota/Lexus back at the Nurburgring this year with the Gazoo racing team. The GT86 and two LFA's including a new LFA "code X" with a bigger 5.3(vs 4.8) liter V10.

I hope they do so with this car, but imo it will just be a test bed for a new LFA type project car.

Is this the rumored GTE that ran the 24 hours last year? And does anyone know if there is a time schedule for the the 24 hours test?

If I understand correct, this car isn't exactly the same as the original GTE that was intended for LM24, but the LFA that Gazoo races at the Ring is heavily based on it.

Atleast they race it somewhere in europe.
But is it confirmed they will have a test day for the 24 hours?

I believe SP9(GT3) is the highest class of VLN24 now, so no more GTE.

Can't you enter a GTE in the prototype category? The same where the Glickenhaus P4/5 runs in?

They can still enter it in SP8, since it has an engine between 4000 and 6250 cc. And that's where the LFA has been every time it has raced at the N24. There is no fully real "top class" at the N24, the fastest cars are generally a mix of the top GT3, SP7 and SP8 cars.

According to Toyota, the car has a full carbon fiber frame body to reduce weight. Should be interesting to see what specs they run it this year.

It's all about engine displacement, Porsche 997 GT3 RSR usually runs in SP7 class, but during this season manthey racing used a 997 GT3 RSR powered by a 4.4L engine so the car ran in SP8. Fernbacher 458 GTE in 2011 ran in SP8 too. The work BMW-schnitzer M3 GT2 used until 2011 in theory had to be in SP7 class but having deep modifies and waivers, the class was E1-XP.

Am I the only who really think the VLN Endurance Championship is the most underated sportscar series in the world?

No, but at its roots it is a club racing series, so it should stay underrated to keep the club racing roots close and the character intact.

Good choice in my mind. Interesting to see Luhr is only 34 and has been a factory driver for Porsche, Audi, and Nissan.

Lucas Luhr has indeed had an interesting career. One you can't clearly define as a success or a failure.
ex. what happened with Audi and the LMP1 program, other than the 2009 crash, I don't quite understand.

I'd say his career has been a success for sure. Maybe not compared to upper echelon guys like Tom K - but the fact he is still one of the most in-demand sportscar drivers in the world after 15 or so years in the game can't be denied.

I'm sure he'd have hoped for more than a pair of GT class wins at Le Mans. Maybe there is an element of not fulfilling his potential. Being a factory driver for Audi for three years and never even standing on the podium shows there's a bit of a nearly-man theme there. But he's still getting paid which is more than a lot of people (and a few F1 drivers) can say.

I agree, but Luhrs ultimate dream can be safely assumed to be winning Le Mans overall, and in that perspective, you really can't define it as an success.
But yes, what Luhr have is in many ways the dream life for a lot of racing drivers. He's free to race in a lot of different races, classes and styles. He can get seats in almost everything, and get's payed to do what he loves. In many ways like Allan Simonsen.

I am not even sure about that one - he went to DTM the same year Rocky did, and Rocky's big goal ever since was the DTM-title rather than Le Mans. It worked out for him, in the end, but Lukas' stint in DTM is the single biggest black mark on his career, IMHO.
