Obviously it's open to interpretation but I classify them like this:
Sportscars: Porsche 911, Corvette, Viper, Aston Martin Vantage, Nissan GTR. Supercars: Audi R8, Ferrari 458, Mclaren MP4-12c/650S, Lamborghini Gallardo/Huracán, Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Corvette Z06. High end supercars: Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari F12, Lexus LFA. Hypercars: Ferrari LaFerrari, Mclaren P1, Porsche 919, Bugatti Veyron, Pagani Huayra, Koeniggsegg Agera. |

I think that just about everyone will have their own idea's on this, but pretty sure that with this type of list it is very unlikely any list will be the same as the above or in fact anyone else's.

I've been thinking about this GT contra the GTE LM rules. They have to build at least 300 cars before LM next year, thanks to the carbon tub.
But then I kept thinking; will we see a major change in the GTE rulebook for next year? The rules are really outdated, when you look at the potential cars (Ford GT, Ferrari 488 GTB, Lamborghini Húracan, McLaren (650S or 675LT), Honda NSX, Porsche 911 (GT3 RS or Turbo S) etc) for the class. |

When is the 'next-gen' (another word to add to the super/hyper/megacar debate) GTE ruleset supposed to be announced? Thought I read in a couple of the stories about the 488, they were supposed to be for 2016 but can't remember. Most of the discussion was about the 488 being revealed in the flesh this season, street cars next and the next racer 2017/18. But with new rules and new Ford GT, NSX, 911 (insert appropriate variant here, could we see the turbo back instead of a GT3?) coming along the rules might miss out on some great GTE cars at the expense of pushing LMP1 and seemingly always trying to not lose the GTE-AM guys. It is the ACO and the potential for an LMP1 hyper-focus with 4 major constructors onboard already seems large. Add in GT racing being fragmented (and series seemingly fighting any cohesion) and it seems like an even harder task making a GTE rulebook. I haven't read a lot that made it sound like there was any progress even from teams hinting about the future so I would think it would be hard for Ford to justify throwing their new halo car in the ring right now. But stranger things have happened and seeing a GT at Petit would be pretty cool and easy for IMSA to find a way to allow. Although of the turbo engines it might be the most ready to race with factory bits, but I'm sure Porsche would be up to to task quickly though. And I'm sure IMSA is bending the ACO's ear about making sure the GT has a decent leg to stand on and bring back the old Ford vs Chevy marketing in the US.

It's hard enough to equalise GTLM. Equalise hybrid cars would be chaotic.

It's funny to think a hypothetical GTE class for next year would literally be all Turbo cars sans a V10 lambo and a direct injected Corvette motor.

A well informed colleague on another forum says that the new GT racer will be officially launched in Le Mans this year and will include some press demo drives around Paris.

Didn't the head of the ACO already say that Ford would be returning to LeMans next year at the 2015 WEC launch?

No idea where the prototype talk has come from. The biggest question is whether they will bring something over to Le Mans. Or will we get drawings, driver news etc? |

Hopefully they'll take a leaf out of Nissan's book and do a public unveiling to the fans at Le Mans.

Seems they didn't appear on stage with a complete lack of humility for the sport and competition and spilled a bunch of sky-high targets while (implicitly or explicitly) insulting the competition. So why would anybody who identifies with the sport be as annoyed with their marketing as with someone who does do the aforementioned?

Ford hasn't announced a race program yet, let alone any benchmarks. You seem to be bringing a rather large chip on your shoulder into this thread, just let it go.
