There is alot wrong with it!! Artificially closing the field is no better than artificially stretching the field as mentioned above.

An easy solution is for V8Supercars to do what the WEC and Le Mans 24hrs are doing this year and introducing 'Code 60' caution periods. There is no safety car, and if a leader has built up a hard earned 10sec lead he gets to retain it.

But in previous years the starting positions of race 2 were determined by the finishing positions from Race 1 so the both days contributed to the final result. Maybe they should at least use the combined results from R1&2 to determine the grid for R3.

But then you lose out on the supposedly TV-friendly top 10 shootout.

Would it be too gimmicky to suggest that the Sunday top 10 shootout be made up of the 10 highest point scorers of races 1 and 2?

peckstar has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Clipsal has had a number of different qualyfying styles.

I like individual qualyfying

I dont think it has ever awarded the Clipsal winner to the combined point winner of the weekend

2000: Tander was given the trophy as the Clipsal 500 winner; Skaife was the winner of the 2nd race. Tander came 3rd and 2nd; Skaife had a DNF and a 1st.

2007: Todd Kelly was given the trophy as the Clipsal 500 winner; Rick Kelly was the winner of the 2nd race. Todd came 1st and 2nd; Rick came 4th and 1st.

Quote: "In 2008 V8 Supercars briefly attempted to retrospectively change the winners of past Adelaide 500s to recognise only Sunday race winners, even to the point of changing overall series statistics, but have since reverted. A major regulation change for the championship as a whole in 2009 saw each race in the championship recognised individually and 'round results' were no longer officially recognised. Since then V8 Supercars Australia have stepped away from the concept of an overall two-day Adelaide 500 winner."

Remember what the SC is for: so idiots like me can run onto a live circuit to clear up debris, recover cars, dress fluids etc. without fear of being killed on live TV.

We all think the SC is an entertainment thing, but trust me - it isn't.

The code 60 is yet to be proved as a success outside of the Dubai 24 and some Dutch circuits. So far as I know the ACO haven't adopted it for the LM24.

Note that I'm not saying it doesn't work, simply that it's not widely used.

From what I've seen the code 60 is brilliant, actually. It prevents people taking strategic pit stops then charging round to catch the back of the train.

The ACO "slow zone" isn't a full Code 60 though. It'll be interesting to see how it works this year.

The problem with awarding the win to the highest points scorer for the weekend is that when it goes to the guy who came 4th in all 3 races we all say it's stupid and should have gone to the guy who won the feature race - they just can't win.

A solution would be a 200km race on Saturday starting at the same time as the second race, so actually running into a "twilight" time, with a 300km feature on Sunday at normal time or possibly slightly earlier so that we can see the end :P Higher points for the feature, so naturally the winner of the feature race will win the weekend, providing he finished the first in a points scoring position.

And yet we had the incredible sight of two cars side by side through the chicane under full speed during the safety car period.

I could not believe my eyes.

Go back to how they did restarts in the 90s and early 2000s, you didn't see as much of this rubbish back then.

Can't see a problem with the A-Z format....the race has to be re-started somehow.

Imagine this scenario for a minute....It's lap 3 of a race (for example), the field is bunched up during 'green flag' racing, they all accelerate out of a 60kph hair-pin corner , they all arrive at the next corner (still bunched up).

Is this an excuse to crash into each other ? Thought not.
