Who can break tradition?
For over 25 years, every championship has gone to Ferrari, Williams or McLaren (with 2 exceptions for Benetton).
The manufacturers are'nt here to make up the numbers, so breaking this tradition is a must if any of them are to stay in F1 for the long term. Is it possible? At the moment just coming 3rd would be a major (and currently unreachable) achievment, so is winning even possible? Are they deluding themselves? If not - who can do it? |

Of the above mentioned, my guess would be Toyota. |

Only Toyota or Renault are likely to pull it off. I would go so far as to say in the next 6 years. (5 after 2003)

If anyone could do it, I agree that it's Toyota or Renault. But I just can't see it in the next ten years.
Getting on top of one of these 3 is hard enough, defeating all of them looks impossible. |

I'm going with Renault. They have the knowledge and expertise of how to win championships.

Renault has done well lately but their not the Benetton of old. They dont have what it takes. Toyota, itll take a while but they have the resources.

Has to be Toyota or Renault.
BAR, Jaguar are in shambles, and it's certainly nto going to be a team without manufacturer support. |

Sorry Monster, they are, I mean they can't win using last years motor.
If Sauber are to take on these 3, they are'nt going to do it using a year old engine. |

Toyota seem the most likely, looking at the testing they have made excellent progress, Da Matta is settling in well and Panis will help them develop before retiring and perhaps amking way for someone like Raikkonen. Toyota's budget doesn't make failure an option.

Money does'nt win championships though, people do.
If any team wants to take on the big boys, some serious poaching needs to be done. Newey, Schumacher etc. Thats how Ferrari and McLaren returned to form. |

IMO, it has to be Toyota, i was going to say Renault too, but i just don't see them being able to do it, especially if, after 1 proper season in F1 as a team they are already looking to try and cut back costs with regards to testing etc.

No one did it in 25 years... no one will do it in another 10. Renault were not even able to win one during the Turbo years, and as much as I'd like Alonso challenging for it, I don't see it. And Toyota... I think they're still some way behind.
Right now, beating Williams, McLaren... is one thing. But to reach the Ferrari level?? Almost unthinkable... (But someone will, in the end) |

Renault also are opting out of unlimited testing which I find an interesting gamble, but ultimately strange for a serious works manufacturer who allegedly has unlimitd resources (I suspect this is not remotely the case as with Jaguar). Renault, sadly, will turn out to be the biggest disappointment of the next fews years IMO. |

Renault - they had a dip (as Benneton), but are really coming to the fray again. Still essentially a young team despite this - and 'best of the rest' already. Although, the driver choice with Flav is looking a bit favoritist, and that could hurt the chances if there are better drivers out there.

Since TGF is not willing to make the biggest and best decision in any sport(move to Minardi on a 3 year deal) I see the big 3 going as low as Toyota will go up in about 3-5 years.
I know I didn't make any sense. So what? |

Er, Wrex, time to look up your history son.
1983 NELSON PIQUET BRABHAM-BMW Beat Alain Prost by 2 points at the final round in South Africa 59-57. |

I honestly don't think renault have the drive anymore...sadly-just like honda.
Toyota is THE best candidate, but they must also have a GREAT DRIVER. Remember-benetton would be still absolutley nothing without shumacher |
