JABWOA should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Enforcing grass roots motorsport to go fully safety compliant with roll cages, harness etc will kill grassroots motorsport.

However, this event appears to be "street legal" drag race using the race circuit. Didn't anyone learn from Todd Wilkes accident all those years ago at Eastern Creek?

Another reason, not to participate at this circuit and Lakeside,
Just more $$$$, why let cars onto racing circuits, that are not built for racing

There is a few ppl posting on all forms of social media to support racing at this venue.
Problem is, it is not racing, it is money for the owner who hires it out.

If it was racing, there would be required safety:
Roll cages
Fire Bombs
Racing Harness
Scrutineering to ensure it meet all safety guides
Fully maned points for safety
the list is endless,

but hey that cost money

Let any anyone who pays run,

I heard from a couple of mate involved in drag racing, that the Monaro that crashed was told they weren't welcome back at Willowbank unless they fitted the appropriate safety items as per the rules governing drag racing. This was because they were doing sub 10 second quarter miles (and sub 6.49 eights) at over 145MPh (230+kph) at the quarter. They were under the impression that the car did have a roll cage then either.

If the cars are capable of going that fast, surely they should be doing some safety checks and meet a decent standard of safety.

Have heard that as well.

Car ran a 9 or something on it's one and only pass, and was told to call it a night, until it met the standards for a sub-10.5sec car. Which is full cage, containment seats, parachute, license upgrade, etc.

Precinct not secure

The Qld Government released the "ShapingSEQ" Long Term Plan last month (August 2017). It outlines the development of the Urban Footprint for South East Queensland to 2041 to accommodate the extra 5 Million people.

The Ipswich Motorsport Precinct is included in the future Urban Footprint !. Former Cr Paul Tully & Deputy Mayor of Ipswich was on the committee that put the plan together.

They have also included the RAAF Base Amberley in the Urban Footprint - unbelievable !.

The fantasy game is now over - Ipswich Council is shutting down the company formed to redevelop the Ipswich Motorsport Precinct.

No mention of this news from V8 Supercars - they have really been taken for a ride on this little escapade.

Story here. Interesting to see that the Ipswich Council CEO has now been charged with corruption by the corruption commission and other charges have been laid too. Innocent until proven guilty but it all seems to be happening in Ipswich!

In the meantime, the Motorsports Precinct does need work, hopefully the various track operators there can work out how to get it done.

Former Chairman of the motorsport precinct company & deputy mayor Paul Tully has stood down: More goings on in Ipswich

Wonder how much more of this is to come?

Just a question of who pays for the upgrades or no Supercar event in 2018.

Can the Council keep everyone happy?

It remains to be seen what "safety upgrades" are required in the report if any ?. Does the report include a detailed design of the "upgrades" and a detailed construction estimate - or is the $1M just a guess ?.
The track still complies with all the runoff and safety standards set by the FIA, so it will need to force a change there before anyone starts writing cheques or agreeing to anything.
If Supercars requested the report so they can get the track licence they need, it makes sense that Supercars will have to find the funding. They won't spend their own money of course, but will convince the State Government they need the help ($$$) to keep the remaining V8 teams in Qld. There is zero chance that ICC will fund any "upgrade".

The report may contain those items but it's confidential and this article mentions "up to" $1mill so it appears to be an estimate of the possible top end cost.

The need to for the "upgrade" is based on the FIA inspection, suggesting that the track no longer meets all the FIA's requirements - story here

The problem for ICC is that it appears from the 1st article linked above that there is a contract in place between ICC and supercars. I would imagine that there will be plenty of negotiations and discussions going on about this - watch this space I guess.

I am conversant with the current FIA Standards - QR meets those standards, so any "safety upgrade" required in the report will need some serious & detailed justification.

If you read the linked articles, it sounds like the FIA "upgrade" is asking for the temporary infrastructure used for the last 3 years to become permanent. What else on top of that is unknown publicly.

Of course, as you are conversant with FIA requirements, you'll know that they are not standards but are in fact guidelines. An accredited FIA inspector has leeway to require either more or less than the guidelines, dependant on the individual requirements of the track being inspected.

The track may be compliant with a particular standard, but not to the standard required to host an event for the likes of Supercars (Grade 3), or any catagory that sits at the same tier as Supercars, in the eyes of the FIA.

If the track is no longer FIA Grade 3-compliant, CAMS are not obligated to issue the required licences to Supercars, or the likes of The Nationals.

Well then Supercars have backed into a corner - If they can't find a $1M for the "safety upgrades" the Qld Teams will be testing at a circuit not part of the championship - simples.
Maybe the Qld Teams might chip in for the "safety upgrade" - they do test there ?.
Could Roger & Roland buy the circuit from ICC ?.
The hard sell will be convincing the punters that street circuits are safer than an FIA compliant permanent facility, when they drop the QR Round from the 2018 championship.

That could be the answer, to buy it,but at the moment, there is a lease on the facility, held by John T.

The area is all Govt/Council land ,(in the old days Crown Land), the mines have the land around it, Tea Tree land fill site next door.

The new make up of Ipswich council is not looking at spending money on the area like the former mayor was keen to do.

It is the right place to build , as it falls under the Amberley Air Force air space,so you cannot be shut down, like Lakeside.
Just have to convince the Govt/Council to upgrade the highway and road networks to get the punters in and out

Unfortunately the Ipswich Motorsport Precinct has no protection against development encroachment in the new (August 2017) ShapingSEQ Regional Plan.

The areas surrounding have been included in the Urban & Economic Development Footprint to 2035.

Study the map carefully on Page 99 & you will see the future of IMP is pretty grim.

So , the Dept of Defence will have to relocate Amberley. Yes that is plausible as the land area will be worth more as housing. It has happened before. Many years ago the tried to move the Greenbank Range , out to Purga Creek area,
Not the Dept Of Defence others with a vested interest to convert Greenbank into housing.

Holsworthy did a have a sell years ago, it is now called Cambelltown.
Middle Head and North head in Sydney went as well.

Ingleburn, and others have gone as well, in other states .

So yes , Amberley may in years to come a new suburb of Ipswich.

"Urban Footprint" doesn't just mean housing though. The areas north & south of the IMP on the highway have been zoned industrial, there has already been a small amount of roadworks, land clearing and the like undertaken for it, along with signs on the highway.

There is land set aside along the south of IMP for a rail corridor to go in, servicing the industrial area but also maybe having a passenger station for access to IMP.

There are also existing plans in place to bypass Willowbank township and Amberley with the highway and have the IMP entry as an overpass rather than the current level turnoff entry.

There is a large zone around and including IMP categorised as high noise (or words to that effect) for planning purposes.

This information was all in the IMP development plan done by Apex and updated recently.

The future isn't necessarily grim but for sure there is work to be done.

Not sure where you get your news or it may just be i can't understand what toi have written, but Holsworthy is still very much alive and running, and will be for many many years to come. Amberley isnt going anywhere either. Middle Head is still there also in a reduced capacity.

The Laverton RAAF base runway area in Melbournes then outer western suburbs was shut down and turned into housing, the hangers, accommodation and training buildings are still there and the base still in use.

For how much longer I do not know but the roads in the new hosing area dead end at the base boundary fence waiting for the bulldozers.

Likely what is there will be moved interstate or to the Point Cook RAAF base aprox 5km south of the Laverton base, Point Cook is the oldest continuously operating Air Base in the world and has the official RAAF Museum located there.

It has a State Park, lake, wet lands and Port Phillip Bay around it which hopefully will limit suburban growth getting too much closer.
