From the provisional starting grid I noted a MkIII entered by Guikas. (Chassis 112?)
and 3 IIIBs.
#7 with Hinderer/Stretton
#14/ Minshaw (both of them?)
#33 Arnoux/Nakano/Mille, which I think is Chassis #156, a continuation car.

Yes, I do work for Clive. Well, more sort of get paid doing your hobby full time.
Also in Grid 5 are Claude Nahum's Mk3, SL73/110 entered under Bernard Thuner as Claude is down with the Mk2 GT40. And we are taking Carlos Barbot's 3b which is a reserve at the moment, but hoping to get a race.
Running Carlos' T280 in Grid 6 as well Hu 03, the ex-Takahara car we're just finishing rebuilding after 35 years in Japan.
Do come and say "Hi" if you get a chance.

Claude's Mk 3 is a coupe, or it was when I looked this morning . HU03 is the ex- Takahara Racing T280. It has been in Japan for it's whole racing career, so it will be making it's debut at LMC. Just got to finish building it....Yes Barbot and Baker do make a quick couple. Qualified on pole for the last LMC and had a good run of results including chasing down the Ligier JS3 and a 917 until the throttle cable broke and put us out with 20 mins left to run. Should be good this year.
Can we post pictures on this thread?

Darren you have my ideal job as a 60's mechanic i know the cars of that era well , just never at that age able to afford or get into the racing scene not untill the 70's with group 2 Camaro Z28.

My first real car race i took notice of was the Lola T70 MK3 B's at the Guards Trophy 1969, and have loved them ever since.

Hi Pete.
The 60's was definetly a great era for racing. It's what got me hooked. I actually used to own the Blydenstien/ Gerry Marshall Viva GT group 2 car, as featured in the 100 sporting moments vid from Crystal Palace,(hence the e-mail address) and have always loved the era. Been in motorsport now for 32 years, since I started karting at 11, and this is my favourite branch of the sport. The racing is just so much more relaxed, and a lot more "friendly" rivalry seems to exist.
Anyway, enough "off-topic" from me. Bring on the T70's.

Can anybody (Darren?) reveal the identity of Lola T70 #7, raced in the LMC by Martin Stretton. The programme/chassis list says it is a IIIB, but it does look like a III.
Martin could not tell me the chassis number, but he mentioned that it was a rebodied Spyder.

I'll have a word with Clive at work tomorrow. He does know the car and yes it is a Mk 3 not a 3b as advertised. They have done that before with the same car, don't know why.

From some recently found files (whilst snowed in) and hopefully of some interest!!

"This is thought to one of the last T70s, chassis number SL76/148 and was sold by Jo Bonnier to Picko Troberg. It was crashed very badly at the 1000kms at the 'Ring by Bjorn Rothstein and was re-built by Lola in August '69 and sold to Barrie Smith who raced it at Buenos Aries in Jan '69 (co-driver Ed Swart) and then raced again at the Kylami 9 hour in the November (co-driver Jackie Pretorious).
It was then converted to a road car in 1971 and then bought from Mike Weatherill in 1974 by Richard Bond and converted back to a racer and was raced various times in '75 & '76 at Silverstone and Oulton Park, gaining two 1sts, a 2nd a 5th and a 7th.
It was then bought by Geoffrey Marsh in November '76 and raced extensively by Richard Bond in '77 (BAT Series, four 1sts and two 2nds) '78 (two class wins) and '79 (Wild Rose series, three 1sts and on 2nd) before being rested for '80".

From my records, in '81 it was raced three times by my late father, two wins (one at the Dubai GP 4/12/81 and one at Silverstone 4/10/81) and one retirement (Silverstone 18/7/81).

Unfortunately I'm not sure of it's life from '82 (Ray Mallock raced it as Geoffrey Marsh was building up a second T70 for my GM) until Chris Beighton/GTC purchased it in '05 but David Piper owned it in the '80s and I think he purchased from Geoffrey Marsh.

In the early/mid seventies Tim Cooper brought a T70 coupe to Charlie Williams shop, here in Kansas City, that was said to be ex-David Piper. It was red with a white/blue stripe, and we add mufflers, etc. to get it licensed for road use. I don't think he kept it very long.
