Surely the money grab TV deal will be his legacy?
Or the Bathurst 12hr clash of 2015?
Or the loss of Homebush under his watch?

People will come back with the usual rubbish about how the series would have died without the Foxtel money, but i'll counter with the reply that if the competitors in a series can apparently only survive on TV money handouts, then does the series really deserve to survive?

The Ch10 TV deal certainly wasn't a money grab.

Homebush was on it's way out as it was. Mr Warburton did however, seek out a very suitable replacement.

As for the 12hr, we all have our theories, but only those that know, will know how that came about, and why. It happened the one time, we all whinged, and most of us got over it and moved on.

If Fox wanted to stump up that sort of money, then so be it. The upshot of that was saving what is basically the backbone of the motorsport industry in this country.

Teams might be struggling now, but they were much worse off only a few years ago.

But the image portrayed is that the whole circus, the "backbone of the motorsport industry in this country", cannot survive without a massive TV cheque.

That doesn't sound healthy, what happens if the next cheque in 2021 isn't as large?

Technically Mr Warburton worked for the board, which included representation from the majority shareholder in Archer Capital, and the minority shareholders in the REC-holding teams.

But why let the reality get in the way of a Supercar bash?

It wont be Mr Warburton's responsibility to secure that now will it...

No different to any other industry. If what feeds it isn't sustainable, then the whole thing falls over. Mr Warburton was tasked with just that; ensuring the catagory's sustainability going forward. Supercars is a very big contributor to the motorsport industry in this country.

The catagory will still need to prove it's worth going forward, regardless of who's at the helm.

Aussie race cars still run with VASC, Utes had a spot on the program but are in the process of change to the diesel series and FF not running nationally is a great shame but I don't think you can put all the blame on VASC, CAMS has a fair bit of blame in that one as well.
Agree, some still play, but not at every round. Yes the utes will have a large grid, as a final hurah, but again like others, only do so many events not the whole show like years ago.

Maybe the costs of being part of the travelling circus was a bit to much.
And yes CAMS would have an input as they want their star category running.

Not happy with your remuneration?
Then line up an alternative, and do a Warburton.

Worked for him, and now Lisa from Today.
