Historic Racing Cars Today (with Images!)

I thought I would celebrate the new forum by putting a few pictures on, starting with one raced by one of our regular posters, SZRacer:-

Taken in the paddock at last year's Goodwood Revival. Just click on the thumbnail.

This one I put originally in the Art and Photography forum and obtained zero comments! Is it really that bad? Last year's Goodwood Revival again:-

Good pictures John, is there any chance you can get this heading/Forum/Topic to appear in the CTCRC's link to the site as I often go in that way and I am sure members of that club would be interested. Also I notice that the other thread on two driver charges I was following has been placed in this forum now and hence does not appear on the CTRCC link.

Yes, those early TVRs are a bit special aren't they? Especially those that have the 289 Cobra or it's derivatives in them. Very desirable motor.

An Historic car is an Historic car with or with out the historyonics and silly in fighting if you know what I mean and would be appreciated by like minded lovers of old cars :-).

I race in CTRCC and and I could not be bothered with all the FIA this and FIA that stuff and associated expenses (see other thread 'They want how much!') to race in other series (and my car is a 1971 model) but I still love old cars from my era when I was fixing them for the road or preparing them for the track.

That wasn't intentional; I'll see if I can find some more to even it out. All I'm trying to do is illustrate the range of historic racing which I hope will be covered in this new forum. In fact, I know Al was at the Walter Hayes meeting and entered in the same race as Zef, but by the time I caught up with him the Camaro was on a trailer (having suffered clutch failure in practice) and Al was nursing a sore head!

New Triple plate Tilton Button clutch fitted, new 6 wheel Brian James Trailer to save having to get underneath to strap it down where people can drop winch hooks on me head, same old head!

Actually John if you are interested I found the problem with the organic clutch that was fitted and the Tilton is really overkill for the power of the engine but I had it anyhow, what had happened was it was a faulty release bearing which managed to snag itself on to the spigot shaft housing and jam the clutch open which rapidly burnt out, most unusual.

Nice pictures John. Sorry to be picky. Isn't that Hall Bends the Tuscan is going through. I haven't been to Cadwell for a few years. Wasn't there some sort of Dunlop style bridge there. I seem to remember just missing something quite solid there some to ago! It looks all open now.

Also a nice set of spare rear lights for Zef's motor!

Yes, you're right Alan, but I always think of the Mountain section as running all the way down to the Hairpin. Probably because it's the high bit! No bridge there now. You're also right about Zef's lights, too!

Al, glad you've got the Camaro sorted; overkill always better than underkill, apart from weight, of course!

Actually John the Tilton runs without a flywheel, just an Auto Trans flex plate so in fact it is way way lighter (just expensive!), at least I will hopefully be able to light up the back wheels now at the start as it felt a bit marginal before to say the least and I reckon that cost me a couple of positions at Pembrey in the last race.

I also always remembered that TVR by the Coco-Tina rear lights, its amazing manufacturers used to cheapen their cars like this to save a few quid as the rear lights were iconic on the Ford and always stood out like a sore thumb. Same as Range Rover using the awful Morris Marina door handles, why.....???

Well Al, don't forget that a lot of the old specialist car makers, certainly in the UK, built in small numbers and lived a hand to mouth existence; they rarely saw profit, so cost saving by buying in parts from larger more established manufacturers was a well worn practice back in the 60s and 70s. TVR were one of those to do that and one of the very few to survive. Less excuse for products like the Range Rover, I agree.
