Arden sings Townsend Bell!
It's not Keen, but it's Bell who takes the second arden seat. I'm suprised, but he's a good driver. (source = crash.net)

Yep, I too saw the article. Seems as though American drivers are becomming more common now, with Derek Hill in the series as well. Townsend should do well in the series he did after all dominate Indy Lights in the USA which is a compariable standard to F3000.

What a strange strange move. He's late 20s, and has two years of Indylights experience and a half season in CART. Lets assume he goes out and wins the title. Then what? Everyone will have expected that out of him and unless he has money he wont get into F1 (unless Red Bull put him in a team)

He must have some funding. Why on Earth would you take Bell over a rising hotshoe like Robbie, Heikki or James?
I'm sure he'll perform pretty well - but really, he should. |

Maybe hejust made an European girlfriend during the off-season!
Maybe he's just plain bloody rich and wants to have a good time in F3000! Maybe he just wants to keep his edge sharp by continuing in a top category while waiting to get back in CART!? |

if his excuse is the first one dan, he needs to quit racing because his priorities are in the wrong place...
it does seem a strange move. can he not get into a decent cart team so he's going to settle for f1?? |

I thought it was F3000 to CART, not the other way around.
One step back, two steps forward? |

Arden must be joking...this guy got thrown out of CART for having too many shunts...imagine the chaos he will cause in F3...

It's a shame he couldn't stay in CART, but as a believer in TB's ability, I'm pleased to see him strike this deal.
I read F3000 will be having a free practice session next year before qualifying, so that should help and Arden is probably the best place to be in F3000 right now. I'll stick my neck out and say TB will win at least one race next year. |

IS A BIT OF A BANZAI move, isnt it? if he does good, he can prove people wrong about him. if he does bad, hes racing live is over completely. I think that is a backwards move, but it can pay back if it works. In any case it will be interesting for 3000 and it will be something to look for.

Yeah but after Indylights and CART experience, will F3000 performance mean anything? Its like when Takagi went back and won Formula Nippon

interesting move... but he proberbly didn't have many options and turning left proberbly didn't interest him much. But I would have thought he would have been better off putting his $$$ into f1 testing on Fridays with Minardi.

I'm surprised by this, but it does seem a good move. Bell could qualify top 6 and finish top 4 in CART on his best days, and maybe the F3000 cars will help him work away from his overdriving problems in CART. Whether he really sees F1 as a realistic target I don;t know, I thinkhe's deluded if he does, but he can get back into CART.
Oh yea, and the title needs fixing. |

I don't think Bell will set the world on fire, but he is definitely a better driver than Derek Hill from what I have seen. Arden ran Viktor Maslow for 3 years, so it shouldn't surprise anyone that they took Bell's money. My guess is Townsend didn't have enough to get back into CART, so F3000 was probably his next best bet.
He is a pretty cool guy too if you have ever gotten a chance to speak with him. |
