Sally Hingston memorial plaque / marshals' shelters at Silverstone

Excellent press release copied below - lets do our best to get along to the ceremony during the LMS meeting on Saturday. Might need to get a move on as the F3 finishes just 10 mins before the 13:00 handover at the start of the lunch break.

THE DOGHOUSE OWNERS’ CLUB TO PRESENT £10,000 CHEQUE TOWARDS ALL-WEATHER SHELTERS FOR SILVERSTONE MARSHALS
Members of the Womens’ Motor Racing Associates Club (WMRAC), affectionately known as The Doghouse Owners’ Club, will be at Silverstone circuit, to present a cheque for £10,000 to David Thomson, on behalf of Silverstone Estates, on Saturday 10th September, 2011 at 1pm.

The £10,000 donation will go towards providing All-Weather Shelters for the Silverstone Marshals, with Silverstone Estates adding the remaining £20,000 needed to complete the task. The Club’s President, Shirley Procter and Patron, Jane Leslie will present the £10,000 cheque to David Thomson at Flag post 1 (next to the start/finish line, opposite New Wing) Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire.

Sally Hingston, one of the dedicated Silverstone marshals and a long-standing Doghouse committee member, who was tragically murdered on August 6th 2009, will be honoured with a plaque bearing her name at the All-Weather Shelter at Flag Post 1. "We all knew how much Sally loved marshalling at Silverstone and as she helped us raise funds for these All-Weather Shelters, Flag Post 1 just had to be named after her. I am delighted that both her husband Reg and their son Roy will be at the presentation on Saturday," said Leonora Hill, Chairman WMRAC.

The Doghouse Owners’ Club which celebrates its’ 50th Anniversary in 2012, has donated over £2 million to motor racing related charities and other worthy causes over the years, often providing highly specialised equipment, thanks to the hugely successful fund-raising efforts at the sell-out Doghouse Charity Balls (1963-1999). Most recently, funds raised from the Club’s Diamond Dinner and sales from the 2011 Doghouse Calendars of Racing Drivers, resulted in this generous donation to the Silverstone Marshals.

Leonora added: "It all started five years ago, when we decided that we wanted to help the Silverstone Marshals in some way and, after consulting a number of their members, it was clear that All-Weather Shelters would serve them best. That has been the driving force behind our most recent fund-raising efforts and we are delighted to have helped our unsung heroes. We welcome anyone attending the Autosport 6 hours of Silverstone race meeting to join us at Flag Post 1 for the presentation at 1pm on Saturday."

It might be nice if the green recovery Land Rover was at Post 1 as it has a memorial to Sally on the cab since 2009.

Grant & Annie's "Daisy" has a memorial to Sally on the cab so we should hopefully be able to have that there. I think that these shelters are a wonderful memorial to a lovely lady - many thanks to the Doghouse Owners Club.

The weekend before her death i was doing woodcate gap.Sally was doing startline,as cheerful as ever,i still keep expecting to see her there.

To echo others on this post a nice tribute to a truly wonderful person.

I hope enough time is allowed by the organisers for those of us who wish to attend, there are times when somethings are more important than motor racing and this is one them.

Hopefully, the circuit will manage to organise a bus or two trackside to get most of us there? Plus briefing the security folk to allow us to drive there and park up for a short while without any arguments!

A couple of hundred of us in orange, or black of course, would not only show our gratitude for the donation but also repeat our tribute to a lost friend.

Without wishing to antagonise our friends "upstairs", if we're all late back on post . . . . .

Following complaints, I've split the posts discussing who ought to pay for shelters etc. into a new thread http://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=130011

Please make any comments about post provision, design etc. etc. on the new thread and leave this one for discussion of the memorial, memories of Sally etc.

Thanks
