Trixman should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
What Series?

I'm new to racing and wanted to experience some single seater action. Having done my ARDS a few years ago something always seem to come up to stop me 'having a go'... mainly the fact I need to do arrive and drive, having 0 mechanical knowledge.

After a recent go at Palmersport in their F3000 style car it really cemented the fact its single seaters (or LM style) that I should be looking to do. It suits my driving style and i instantly felt at home.

Now I need to find a series. Preferably something close to the F3000 (decent power with wings) though finding it hard.

I'm looking to do just a few races per year, but initially want to get a testing day done to see if it suits.

Does anyone have recommendations? Monoposto/f3cup etc? And any teams offering decent arrive and drive with driver tuition?

Being a long time Formula Atlantic fan I attended one of their races at NJ Motorsports Park last weekend. The organization that currently runs the series is Formula Race Promotions out of New Hampshire. Here is their contact information. They field F1600 (which may be the right place to start), F2000 and Formula Atlantic, and next year will apparently be adding American F4.

Perhaps someone that could help you even more is this company in PA. They seem to be involved with a number of teams in the above mentioned series and could provide the mechanical expertise you are lacking. Good luck.

I'd certainly recommend Monoposto, although it's been a few years since I raced in it. Good grids and the cars are exciting to drive, whilst being affordable to run.

As a left field suggestion, also have a think about the Clubmans Register's series. Quirky looking front engined cars, some with cycle front wings and some with enclosed sports car bodywork but they are properly quick slicks and wings cars, particularly those in their Proto Class, with c 250bhp.

Just to plug the Clubmans cars a bit more, the Classic Clubmans contingent impressed at the Gold Cup meeting at Oulton Park this weekend. I think 4 finished in the top 6 of the Derek Bell Trophy race, beating F5000, F2 and F Atlantic cars and Mark Charteris won one race overall. Not bad for a car with about 190bhp from a 1700 Ford Crossflow.

Clubmans cars are probably the cheapest way into quick historic racing.

Sports 2000 Duratec. Best bang for your buck Sports Racers anywhere. Talk to Clive or Cindy at MCR. They will be able to offer a test, as well as arrive and drive. Sports 2000 goes to all the proper circuits, i.e. BHGP, Silverstone GP, Donington GP, Oulton Intl, Spa. It's also relatively difficult for anyone to come in and just throw money at it to win. We're at Silverstone on the GP circuit this coming Sunday, so why not drop in and say hello? We are a friendly bunch and do like to meet new friends..................
