Although Michele's best F1 days were over before I became a fan, the fact that the man competed so long in F1 speaks for itself, and he is a truly great sportscar driver.
He will long be missed RIP. |

That's how this wonderful drivers dies... And he would be different... I still have him in my memories like a bright sunny day. He was a good guy, loved for all mates at the grid. Fast and confident like many of the current drivers. Does it means anything ? Well, I guess if you ask him how he would like to make his final show... I bet he would choose this way ! You're a great man, now you join the temple of speed and that's the best anyone could take. Race man !! I'm sure you'll have good company !!! |

This is horrible news..Michele was my first ever favorite drive when I started watching F1 back in 1985 ..I followed him during his entire career at Ferrari and even when he left them I still followed what he was doing and how he was going.
very sad news indeed and a driver that I have never heard a bad word spoken about..it is a real pleasure to here these kind of things about a driver..we complain so much about certain drivers ..but i have never heard anyone complain about michele. he will always live on in my memory as the man who made me fall in love with motorsport. To tell you the truth I really did not now him very well, but from what I saw yesterday on TV he was a big driver and a greater man. It is sad to see people like him leaving us, RIP Mr. Alboreto.

I remember very well Michele winning the Detroit GP in a Tyrrell back in 83. The TV commentator( I believe it was Paul Page, but don't quote me) kept mispronouncing his name calling him Michael Alboreto. That annoyed me as I knew his proper name. It was a fantastic race as Tyrrell wins were few and far between at the time. Indeed it was the last win for the Ford Cosworth that had been so prevelant before the turbo era. That race made me an Alboreto fan for life.

Sitting at breakfast this morning, the local paper, usually devoid of any racing news finds space for this awful story.
Two bleak black lines of type that cannot begin the sum up the inspiration this fine man was. I will never forget that beautiful drive at Detroit in the little Tyrrell in 1983. I was a confirmed fan from that day on. So many of his peers have left the sport behind, and he continued out of the pure joy of racing to compete at the top level. Requiescant in Pace, amici mio. My prayers go out to your wife and young daughters. |
