FBMW Europe - has it lost its way?

Since the move to a european series this year, I've heard little of the championship. Racing at GP weekends is good, but if the championship is so low-profile is it worth it?

what's the perception of this champioship in the rest of europe?

it has been a while between races which has kept it out of the news which is a pity because there is so much other racing going on each weekend throughout europe - guess we should wait & see when there are a few races back to back before we can judge....

To be fair there have only been two races so far and only one of those was on the GP support in Spain - the other was a race at Zolder that was supposed to support the Champ Cars, but obviously they didn't come.

It's a busier summer so I am sure there will be more promotion, but it does seem to be a missed opportunity at the moment.

The grid is full and has depth so the series is fine. Sure it could benefit from pan european TV coverage but then again so would GP2. Both Gp2 and Euro BMW have stuck to local broadcasters that have F1 rights, a good policy for some countries but bad for most of us.

28 drivers qualified at zolder, so #'s are very good - i didnt even know this round was run & won...

I don't doubt the series is currently strong - there was massive competition for the teams to get entries, which makes it all the more surprising that I haven't heard anything since!

I used to periodically keep up to date with FBMW UK via crash.net but they no longer have a FBMW section. I guess I'm was expecting more coverage for a high-profile manufacturer backed series which is supposed to be grooming the F1 stars of the future!

I guess it would've got more publicity at Zolder if the Champcars had of run...

Next round (5 & 6) is at Silverstone with Formula 1...

Points after 4 rounds...

2. Adrien Tambay - 92
3. Daniel Juncadella - 84
4. Marco Wittmann - 78
5. Carlos Huertas - 50
6. David Mengesdorf - 44
7. Mihai Marinescu - 36
8. Pedro Bianchini - 35
9. Kevin Breysse - 35
10. Doru Sechelariu - 27

I've been dissapointed with the organisation and promotion of this series. Last years British championship was excellent, and very close.

This season it just seems abit all over the place

BMW should have paid Eurosport to show the championship like Porsche do with the Supercup. I think at the moment Premiere in Germany is the only channel to show it live. All I have seen of it is the 5 minute FOM highlights shown on MotorsTV and before/after the GP2 race on ITV4.

They seem to have lost the plot in terms of costs. Next week there's a 2-day test in Hungary, which might be okay for the European based teams, but I feel very sorry for any from the UK.

It is a european series so the organisers can not possibly please everyone. Besides British teams are a minority, 3 out of 10.

Gutierrez was in a class of his own. His win on Saturday was impressive, but you could tell on Sunday in the pouring rain he was in a class of his own. I was stood at the Abbey chicane and you could hear his throttle control was perfect, whilst most others stamped on the pedal and spun heading down to Bridge. He looked totally in control. I bet he gets a shot for A1 Team Mexico later in the year.

The quality of the driving was very good all round - especially next to GP2 and F1 this weekend. I know they aren't as quick, but there is still plenty of room for error around Silverstone. And I didn't see a single bit (from what I could see anyway) of contact between drivers either...

I have to agree! Given the age and experience, or lack of it, from a lot of the competitors I thought that driving standards were exemplary. There was some contact, but given the conditions, it was minor to say the least and I think just down to cars sliding in corners... I have to say I was dead impressed by all involved.

In stark contrast to the FBMW race at Montreal that I watched on tv the other day which was carnage!

Someone told me that FBMW wasn't listed on the timetable for Silverstone - can anyone confirm or deny this?
