Oran Park - 2009 Dates

With 2009 being the last year of racing competition at Oran Park, I thought it would be appropriate to open a thread. Does anyone have any information about event dates for 2009?

I don't have all the dates for OP in 2009, but i do have a couple, listed below. For further dates, try the OP website or the CAMS NSW calendar.

January 23-25 FoSC
June 27-28 HSRCA
July 24-26 FoSC

It has probably been more than 25 years since Oran Park was supposedly closing down.

So I'd guess people will remain skeptical until the bulldozers move on in.

With the current GFC, as Kevin so cleverly put it, the Bulldozers might be further away than first imagined.

Not too many developers are planning to do too much right now.

The houses might be quite aways off. Which keeps the cars there a bit longer

So the ongoing two sub-division developments less than a kilometre east and immediately north of Harrington Park, on Cobbity Rd - plus the duplication of said road - must have been a figment of my imagination when I drove through there two weeks ago?

Besides the historic dates mentioned above the only national level meeting is the Shannons round on 30 August.Even if the bulldozers don't move in next year the (understandable) lack of track maintenance will mean the circuit will become unusable in the near future.

The current plan is that it will be open in 2010, but will not hold a CAMS Track Licence and will only be available for private track bookings.
This is because the plan is by halfway through 2010 the track will start to be developed. Of course, this may change depending on the economic climate etc. But given the level of development a mere stones throw from the track, I'd be surprised if the developers didn't start on it before the end of 2010.

It's not the track that is run down, the pits are looking decidedly unloved and last time I was there in September, mud was washed into the carports the spectator areas were pretty rough.

Peddler has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
I can not see it being open in 2010 Nath... a few weeks ago they have started the roads on the eastern side of Oran Park. The first estate release Harrington Downs has already started selling land as well on the other side of the road which is within a few hundred meters of skidpan as a crow flies.

John "stigishlookingdudebutididntsaythatdidi" Boston was telling me that he was talking to Tony Perich not long ago and his words to Boz were that the South circuit will see out 2009 but not the GP sections of the track

Yeah, if they are open in 2010, it will be a max of 6 months according to JeffB.
I guess I better get the car back out for a couple of last runs at the place.... when's the next AS GP Circuit day?

One is tempted to say that its a pity the GP section saw further than the drawing board, letalone 2009.......

I won my last race at Oran Park, and thought it would be my last race at Oran Park.

With it open next year I stand a chance of not finishing on such a high note.

But I'll have to keep going back until the end, you never know I might win one again.

Last AASA Meeting in May?

NOTICE TO ALL COMPETITORS

The 2nd May meeting at Oran Park has drawn a lot of interest with competitors wanting to race at the meeting seeing as it is the last AASA meeting at that track.

etc

i have only driven around oran at a supersprint but geez the dogleg is interesting, especially the first time around, THEN you come over the hill and are faced with a wall. took me all day to get used to that but still couldn't quite commit myself into the last turn.

thats not true sizzle. it was well expected that it was close in 2008, it only as the time got closer that we realised that it would be able to stay open longer.

In fact we have been talking about it closing even earlier. theer was much talk that 2007 would be its last year

Last year St George Motorcycle Club were going to promote one of their meetings as the 'last motorcycle race meeting at Oran Park' but there are at least three on my calendar this year and a practice day in February.
