What happened to the 1997 Factory BMW 320i

Yes, I was wondering what happened to the three BMW 320is that Paul Morris, Geoff Brabham ,and Craig Baird raced in the 1997 Australian BOC Gases Super Touring Championship. I heard that Gold Coast preparer Stef Zelanek had the three BMW 320i in 1998, but with no drivers. Did one of these three wind up in Cameron McLean hands. Any information on this question would be great thank you.

One very definately became Cam McLean's second BMW in the 1998 season. At least one was retained by Morris which became the 1999 Championship winning car, then won the Bathurst 500 that October in the worst weather conditions Bathurst has ever seen. Morris ran Owen Kelly then later John Tuelan and Alan Gurr as team-mates in the post-factory BMW days 1999-2001 so that was very probably the third car. Where they went after that I do not know. There are quite a few Morris BMWs of varying ages scattered around in New Zealand and some appeared very occasionally in Touring Car Challenge here.

Some were sold off into South East Asia or back to Europe. At least one Super Touring BMW shell was sold off as a rolling chassis to Justin Wade who put BMW M3 mechanicals in it and races it in Queensland as an Improved Production Touring Car, but I think that was a spare shell all along.

The #2 Morris championship winner went to Cameron McLean in 1998, then overseas (Sweden rings a bell)

The #83 Bathurst winner initially went to (or was supposed to) Stef Zelenak for a proposed 1998 ASTC attack with supposed drivers Geoff Brabham & Greg Murphy (the same drivers linked with a works Honda effort the same year).

Nothing came of it and the car re-appeared as Falc said with Paul Morris in 1999 when he started Nemo Racing/PMM... does he still have this car today?

Wasn't Baird's car one of the 1996 cars updated?

GMS had a BMW sitting in its workshops in '97 livery when they were running Lowndes, what was the history of that car?

Driver TBA should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Stuckey Tyres in Sydney Rd Brunswick appear to have the #83 Bathurst winner in their showroom (around Easter time). Don't know if it's the real deal?

Hope this helps.

Of the two cars Morris ran, the 95 (96?) spec car was run by Owen Kelly a few times. I have an idea that car was sold to a collector.

The ex Morris 97 spec car was sold to Peter Kelly, who ran it in the TCC for a while. I don't tknow if he still has it.

Alan Letcher had an ex Diet Coke 320 for sale recently, but I think that was a 94 spec car run by the team here in 95. It could be the ex Playboy sponsored unit...

It's a bit hard to keep track of the cars run by the Diet Coke team over the years....they had 4 in 1994, 3 in 1995, 1996 and 1997. Whether they were new cars or upgrades is a bit grey...

ex Morris 97 spec car was sold to Peter Kelly, who still has the car.

I understand that the car is for sale.

The second '95 spec car mentioned in the ad would be the ex Diet Coke car owned for years by the Searles in Newcastle.
