While I not being Chucky, I understand the rule book in use will be FIA GT3. However past Nations Cup vehicles not GT3, this year will have restrictions placed on them in order to run.

Does that mean the BMW will be eligible to run. What ever happened to it after the B24?

I think it was FF, (apologies if incorrect FF) who said that car still remains Terry Little or in the possession of Maher Algadri, but hasn't been raced since.
Yes it is my understanding the vehicle can run, however it wouldn't be allowed to run at its full potential, capped so Porsches and Ferrari's are competitive. |

No, I am pretty sure the BMW M3 V8 doesn't comply with any FIA regs.
It is just a German mongrel, rather than an Australian one! They were allowed to race in ALMS (which is what they were built for), but never in N-GT or any other FIA international championships. I could be wrong though |

Not quite how it happened.
The BMWs were built as a homologation special and allowed to race in ALMS initially on the understanding that the other road registerable cars would be built, but they never were so eventually ALMS banned them as the non-conforming cars that they were. |

I don't remember saying anything about the BMW, and even if I did, I don't take any notice of me, so why should anyone else!!
FWIW, I THINK, it was sold off in semi kit form post B24 and has been put together again by someone else.... But I'm REALLY not sure.... Hazy days at PHA/PHR/BUD RACING/PHR SCUDERIA..... long time ago now! Anyway..... did any of you come to Sandown and see the new 360GT of Huglin, and the 360C of Savage having a go...... |

Sandown was the best Sportscar racing seen in living memory. 37 cars with a huge mix and some genuinly exciting RACING.Different cars at the front , Viper, GT2, Cobra, GT3 Cup , Ferrari, MG, TR8, and mor Porsches plus the 360GT debut race - what an incredible field.Just goes to show what can happen if organizers are allowed to put on the show that the competitors want. I was told by the Intermarque people that CAMS dont want to allow them to run a National series like an extension of the various State series.I hope they were present at Sandown to see how fantastic the racing was.

Regarding the M3 GTR - the one's raced in the ALMS were 4 litre V8s, the one John Bowe drove had a 5 litre V8 engine.

No, the ALMS BMW's were 5Litre cars built by Prototype Twchnology Group. The 4 litre cars were built in Europe by Schnitzer.
The 4litre was always a bomb waiting to go off whereas the 5litre was much easier to drive and a better endurance engine. |

It was Schnitzer who ran the works BMW M3 GTR's in the ALMS in 2001, running the 4 litre engine. PTG did run cars, though in which configuration i am not sure, i thought the 5 litre cars were used in Grand-Am.
Wasn't it mentioned when PHR brought the BMW out that 6 had been built, four with a 4 litre engine, two with the 5 litre engine? |

Great news about the Vic Round. Cams really should stand up and take notice as 37 car strong grids, I have to sit down. Must have been a great weekend. Even better with the return of the 360 GT. Is there photos or website that I can look up. |

On subject of the old Trophy Class also referred to as Group 2 now known as GT3, confused ? The Cup Car was in that class from 2003-2004, so Group2 is still kinda the benchmark. Here's to good times ahead for GT racing in Australia. Last edited by D.R.T.; 22 Apr 2005 at 03:21. |

No. just the same crap going round in circles over and over again.
It's going to implode at some point, and then maybe some good will come out of it. I still say... just leave the sleeping dog. Play with it when it wakes. |

Your not the only one, from what I've heard on the grapevine it seems that there are too many chiefs and not enough indians at the moment plus the whisper is all these chiefs are pulling in different directions, its a shame that there is a lot of talk yet no action which has done nothing to improve the situation.

The chiefs are putting the cash up, so being difficult may be allowable as their prerogative....
