Can you classify a person willing to stand outside in all weathers dressed in orange whilst cars hurl themselves at you as normal?

my dad is normal, im the wierd one, but i agree with pinki too, any marshall classifies as normal. we coulnt have motorsport without them, it would be too dangerous, wouldnt it?

sorry for the late reply, but FYI...

I marshalled over at Le Mans for the first time, just after I had recived my green badge (how, is another story in its self). One piece of free advise, is that it's unlike marshalling at anything else over here in the UK (with the exception of the GP), so go over there and enjoy the experience, but expect a bit of a learning curve!

No problem, glad i didn't bore you to tears too much

They dont use the nah nah neh nah nah part, but they make you point at the car that you are waving the flag at (a little difficult when it's an Audi R8 coming round a blind bend at 180 MPH, and you have bearly two seconds to think, point and wave the damn things, let alone add the nah nah neh nah nah!!)

1) Do the spectator thing! It gives you a real feel for the place. You can't believe the place! Spectating gets you around the track. My first 5 visits were spectating, we HAD to stand in the cafe 24 Heures and watch the group C's going past at 240mph at 2 in the morning - awesome!
2) I'm 83 and still go marshalling!
3) Post 70 (Le Humpe before Mulsanne Corner) Is manned by an all British (except 2 septics). It used to be Dutch with a French Chef de Poste. The Dutch really looked after us but it's only since it became "Brands-with-Garlic" that we knew what we were doing before we did it!
4) I think I'm going to have to die before I'm taken off the ACO's mailing list!
5) Try & blag a guest pass from a marshal. I would offer mine but I go over with 3 other marshals and 3 guests. It's not a race, it's an annual pilgrimage to the alter of motorsport!
6) Get into the town on the Friday evening! The driver's parade is the highlight of the whole weekend. I think one of the french teams is still there!

It was bad enough for the Le Mans week, wishing i was there while the whole of the country is completely oblivious to the greatest race, and having to explain to everyone why i'm stuck on the internet desperate for info.

But NOW everyone keeps talking about it and how amazing it is, AARRGG

Now i'm desperate, anybody need a kidney, a lung!!!
